General Electric Technical Leader, Inspection Engineering in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

As a Technical Leader in Inspection Engineering, you will provide the technical direction for high-impact tooling development projects that support the BWR and PWR markets, both domestically and internationally. This is a leadership position that develops and integrates processes to meet business needs across the organization and requires long-term planning. This Wilmington, NC based role contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within GEH Field Services.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering efforts to both plan and perform the design of new Inspection solutions. Provide expert process ownership to ensure quality and reliability.

  • Guide customer discussions; envision and communicate the art of the possible within the realm of GEH Inspection Services performance.

  • Triage emergent issue response during Outage season; be the primary point of contact to help solve Customer technical issues.

  • Identify enabling and discriminating technologies and Intellectual Property (IP) required to achieve business objectives.

  • Develop technical talent and technical depth through mentoring of engineers.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in modernization of current capabilities in support of Field Services mission priorities.

  • Minimal travel expected (less than 10%)


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 8 years of related mechanical design experience including considerable involvement in the development of first-of-a-kind products.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with customers.

  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC (once Covid-19 restrictions allow).

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledgeable in the design of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems.

  • Knowledgeable in structural design basics, beams, plates, fastening and joining.

  • Proven ability to create real and positive change, think creatively and respond rapidly to changing priorities and customer needs.

  • Proficient in 3-D CAD design and computer skills. Experience with Inventor, Inventor Vault, and product lifecycle management software.

  • Knowledgeable with the use of mechanical and structural tolerances, understand fabrication processes and requirements.

  • Ability to quickly assess improperly functioning equipment and perform design changes to improve performance

  • Knowledge and experience in planning, cost estimating, scheduling and delivery of complex mechanical design projects.

  • Experience in the creation of complex technical proposals.

  • Ability to analyze new designs and communicate technical information as to why and how it works the way it does.

  • Ability to anticipate where advanced technology will fit into the mission thread and how the application will improve mission assurance.

  • Strong presentation skills and experience presenting technical material to customers and senior leadership.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and team interaction skills.

The salary range for this position is $106-150k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
