Job Description Summary
The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Hardware Engineer works within the I&C Engineering team and is responsible for designing and implementing I&C electronic hardware and software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C hardware team has strong interfaces with electronic software design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong hardware design skills and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions.

Roles and Responsibilities
The Hardware Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering electronic hardware designs. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
Develop creative solutions and reduce complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
Typical hardware activities will include creating a design from requirements and helping define requirements where necessary.
Design activities include schematic design, component selection, PCB layout, PLD/FPGA design, performing simulation/module testing, PLD/FPGA code reviews, and integration testing of the design. This also includes design verification of these same activities.
Documenting designs by creating Design Specifications, performing PLD/FPGA code reviews, and writing test reports.
Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities
Effectively manage multiple priorities.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in electrical, computer or software engineering from an accredited college of university.
Minimum of 7 years of experience with creating and maintaining electronic circuit boards.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in field.

Relocation to Wilmington, NC
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience with common HDL languages and PLD/FPGA development tools (Quartus, Vivado, ModelSim, Questa, etc.).
Working from a requirements specification:
Design new circuit cards to include sub-circuits, component selection, drawing schematics, performing layout, generating GERBERs and BOM, packaging for prototype build
Receive, inspect, energize, test, and troubleshoot assembled prototype in a lab setting
Revise requirements specifications as needed during design iteration
Reverse engineer existing designs with obsolescence issues:
Design a form-fit-function backward compatible module.
Select alternate components and/or revised circuits
Revise existing requirements specification to ensure that they are consistent with the new design.
During the design process:
Use the applicable development tools (e.g., in System Verilog, Altera, etc.) to generate synthesizable logic
Develop engineering test-bench coding in a lab environment to validate design assumptions
Use the on-board programmable devices to test and validate the logic functions
Knowledge and experience with PCB design, signal analysis and system verification tools (Altium, PSpice, SystemVerilog, UVM, etc.)
General knowledge and experience of schematic design, PCB layout, and PCB manufacturing.
Solves technical challenges through application of common design patterns and identifying appropriate patterns for use in problem solving
Experience in design verification and validation
Leadership experience inside and/or outside the classroom
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly
Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo
Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption

- The salary range for this position is $106-142k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
