General Electric NDE/Inspection Production Supervision Manager (1st Shift) in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

The NDE/Inspection Production Supervision Manager will be responsible for frontline and/or shift management and defined work or projects with moderate complexity in the Quality organization. In this role, you will follow an individual work plan, meet day-to-day objectives, and resolve issues through immediate action and both short and long-term planning. This position also focuses on managing shop priorities across multiple business units and participates in growth playbook exercises and capacity planning.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing / technical escalation assistance and leadership to assigned work group

  • Manage production employees and production schedule requirements to include timekeeping, overtime, time off and discipline (FPI, CMM, Ultrasonic, Eddy Current areas)

  • Support and meet production schedules, drive productivity and quality initiatives, and manage the area within budget guidelines and controls

  • If the work group has Flow Leaders, adhere to escalation process as outlined in the MDI structure and support escalations from Flow Leader as needed

  • Utilize data analysis to improve safety, decrease quality defects, and increase productivity

  • Be knowledgeable, communicate, and enforce handbook and other plant policies

  • Interface with internal and external customers, define priorities for shift and work group leveraging the appropriate MDI structure for that shift/cell

  • Actively participate in Environment, Health and Safety initiatives and corrective actions

  • Actively participate on cross-functional teams and demonstrate necessary leadership and coaching skills to other team members

  • Take active role in coaching and growing their work group’s Flow Leader skills, as well as empower Flow Leaders in their cell ownership (if applicable)

  • Help train and develop skills of production employees; educate production employees on business strategy and metrics

  • Provides daily status updates about NDE developments during PCC meetings

  • Manage shop production priorities across multiple business units

  • Strategically plan multiple Inspection areas for capacity planning due to schedule changes

  • Drive a “quality first” mindset across the inspection and production teams

  • Work with external customers on production requirements, quality, and turnaround times

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college (OR an Associates Degree with at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR a High School Diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR 4 years of military experience)

  • At least 3 years of coaching / supervisory / leadership experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with NDE/Inspection equipment

  • Experience with NDE/Inspection supervision

  • Knowledge in CMM, FPI, or other quality processes

  • Prior experience in driving relationship with external customers

  • Demonstrated experience in quick decision making and problem solving environments

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, quality, sourcing or operations, management experience

  • Ability to work effectively on a team and serve as a positive change agent

  • Previous experience working in a CNC machine shop

  • Demonstrated experience managing New Product Introduction (NPI) in a fast paced production environment

  • Strong analytical skills and willingness to learn and work as technical expert

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize aggressive deadlines

  • Six Sigma training / Lean (GE employees only)

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated experience with effective coaching and/or creating growth opportunities for individuals
