General Electric Lead Electrical Design Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

The Lead Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for detailed electrical and control system design of fuel manufacturing equipment for Natrium High Assay Low Enriched (HALEU) metallic nuclear fuel manufacturing. As a member of a cross functional team, you will follow facility equipment through design, procurement, assembly, testing, qualification and into production operation in a new HALEU fuel manufacturing facility. Design activities range from standalone manufacturing and inspection processing stations to integration of complex automated processing systems. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, assembly, and product handling is required.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Embrace Global Nuclear Fuel’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security and quality.

  • Provide electrical design input to documentation for various advanced manufacturing engineering projects to support facility equipment design. Initial assignment will focus on the Natrium HALEU nuclear fuel manufacturing facility.

  • Working with mechanical designer and process engineers, develop manufacturing equipment, devices, systems, and process design for the new fuel fabrication facility including both electrical/instrumentation and mechanical aspects of equipment.

  • Produce electrical drawing packages for equipment fabrication and facility construction.

  • Responsible for understanding Items Relied On For Safety (IROFS) and other safety controls for facility and equipment. Provide preliminary models and design information for facility criticality safety analysis and Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA).

  • Work closely with equipment fabricators to resolve problems and issues in equipment manufacturing.

  • Perform maintenance on electronic engineering documents, including processing drawings and process information into configuration management systems.

  • Provide design input to facility engineering.

  • Effectively communicate and interface with team members and suppliers to complete assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or similar technical degree from an accredited university or college; OR Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

  • 7 years of technical, military or manufacturing experience

  • 3 years of experience in design of electrical packages for industrial equipment fabrication

  • 3 years of experience using design tools such as Autodesk (Inventor / AutoCAD / Vault) or equivalent design software

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs, and occasionally climb ladders.

  • Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, reach around manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment.

  • Must be able to relocate to Wilmington, NC

Desired Characteristics

  • Electrical engineering degree

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and process engineering skills.

  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, assembly, and material handling

  • Experience in nuclear fuel manufacturing.

  • Familiar with operation and application of industrial equipment and processes such as resistance welding, motors, valves, gears, mixing, heating, cooling, chemical reactions, furnaces, heat exchangers, hoods, vibrators, hydraulics etc.

  • Experience working with relevant industry standards, including National Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Experience with manufacturing equipment design, and specification.

  • Experience with PLC programming and data acquisition.

  • Experience with NRC Regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) or Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA).

  • Advanced mechanical/mechanism integration experience

  • Ability to create details from 2D, and 3D AutoCAD, and Parametric Solid Inventor data bases

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and lean process flow.

  • Experience dealing with equipment integrators, machine, and fabrication shops.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Self-starter with energy, positive “Can-Do” attitude

  • Proven track record of delivering on commitments in a fast paced and matrixed environment with multiple assignments and priorities

  • Proficiency with PC and productivity software [examples include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint]

  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Certification
