General Electric Lead Business Communications Specialist in Wilmington, North Carolina

Role Summary:The Lead Communications Specialist is a member of the Communications department and will help create, develop and execute a broad range of communications activities at various levels within the organization, for internal and external audiences. This person will help manage the relationship between communications and business leadership, marketing, manufacturing, and other related functions to ensures the performance of communications generalist activities.

Essential Responsibilities:As the Lead Business Communications Specialist you will:

  • Assist in the support, creation and implementation of a broad range of communications functions and services across businesses or for a particular geographical regions or hub

  • Emphasis on digital presence, sales collateral, trade shows, employee and community communications, newsletters, employee and customer meetings, presentations and other communications tactics

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of metrics to measure the success of the communications output

  • Maintains the internal and external websites. Partners with business leadership to ensure the performance of communications generalist activities

  • Communication with direct colleagues and the business about design and coordination services rendered

  • Contributes to project as a team member or leads small projects


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Communications)

  • Minimum of 3 additional years of experience as a Communications Business Partner

Desired Characteristics:

  • Excellent project management, experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to create, adapt and edit copy/content for communications activities

  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams

  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

  • Proven analytical and organizational ability

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadline-oriented projects simultaneous

  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Business acumen as demonstrated by the ability to organize, clarify and communicate complex or ambiguous ideas effectivity to various internal constituents
