General Electric Grid Automation Product Management Leader in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

The Grid Automation PAC Product Management leader drives the overall business strategy for the Protection Automation & Control product portfolio. He/she is the leader of the product management team, responsible for the full product life cycle, from the market analysis until the end of life of a product. The leader and his/her team are responsible for the development and the performance of the portfolio of products; understanding the market trends and the customer requirements, defining the specifications and the business case, ensuring the development of the necessary functionalities, on time, at the right cost, and supporting the product through its entire life.

The product management team works closely with Grid Automation customers, commercial, R&D, industrialization and technical support teams to ensure the development of the portfolio, delivers the expected return on investment, meet its target.

Business scope = GA PAC PRO $300M business including Protection Relays, Controllers, Gateways, RTUs, Merging units, DFRs, Meters. Team of 10 Product Managers.

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Product Portfolio roadmap – lead product management teams on product development planning to support Grid Automation growth

  • Priorities investments to maximize returns, track say/do ratio from investment programs

  • Lead the lean transformation of Product Management

  • Determine solutions: uses customer and market feedback to produce strategies and develop value propositions. Coordinate PAC Product roadmap with PAC Solutions team.

  • Understand industry trends, customer needs & growth opportunities for related segments.

  • Define marketing strategies for assigned GA product lines, includes Region sales organization partnerships to boost market penetration.

  • Drive strategic thinking on new or adjacent growth opportunities with concrete KPIs and owners where GA’s know-how, technology, and customer relationships can create value

  • Program-manage the operationalization of strategy plans and key business initiatives incl. workstream and stakeholder management

  • Identify and lead the in-depth business analysis of new and long-term strategic initiatives related to the portfolio.

  • Develop and Lead strategic cross-portfolio initiatives and projects

  • Lead the strategic planning in collaboration with product managers and product leader to unravel new growth opportunities.

  • Develop product segment roadmap, including new product development, research pipeline and market/product support project strategy. Work with R&D teams to ensure alignment.

  • Propose partnerships, acquisitions to meet business growth initiatives.

  • Develops customer connections to link performance with customer expectations and demonstrates ownership of customer requirements.

  • Support the product managers with the development of business cases for new product introductions or similar projects requiring investment decisions.

  • Set up and deliver business presentations both internally and externally

  • Support regions on product qualification, technical solution definition, engineering strategy and design audit. Centralize and enrich application libraries.

  • Partner with GSC to ensure that manufacturing capabilities (quality, delivery model…) match customer and market growth requirements.

  • Owns NPI program management from wing-to-wing ensuring, including but not limited to product definition, market strategy, all NPI milestones and metrics, cross-functional leadership, and commercialization strategy to ensure successful product launches

  • Partner with NPI, Sales, Service and Distribution and other supporting functions to plan for new product introductions and product obsolescence.

  • Team Management - Coordinate and ensure alignment of market support, training and product priorities, and centrally driven commercial and marketing initiatives to product strategy and roadmap.

  • Support sales development activities related to the product portfolio, such as representing the portfolio in customer meetings, conferences, industry publications, blogs etc..

  • Through various channels, stay informed about the market and competitive situation. Continually monitor key competitors - understand new product releases, price-positioning shifts, manufacturing footprint changes, M&A interests.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Visionary and Strategic thinker, team leader

  • Takes the initiative in thought leadership, innovation and creativity

  • Strong business knowledge of Electricity Transmission, Distribution, Industrial, Automation markets

  • Strong leadership experience in Electricity and Automation activities involving management

  • Strong business & technical acumen. A strong interest in business development, commercial aspects is an essential component to be successful in this role

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and influential skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix environment; with diverse, global and cross-functional teams

  • Recognized as a visionary leader with strong business and technical skills

  • High credibility (both Technical, business development & leadership)
