Job Description Summary
The Engineer - Engineering Tools is responsible for the successful configuration, deployment and use of engineering design and design process tools/platforms. The scope includes the management of governing work processes associated with engineering tools, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and serving as an escalation point for tool performance issues and improvement opportunities.

Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for managing, designing (software) tools for use by engineering teams to design, test, measure, and validate systems and sub-systems which containts hardware, embedded software (and possibly also software).
Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or IT from an accredited university or college
At least 2 years of professional work experience
Desired Characteristics
Demonstrated proficiency in managing technical software applications, and project management skills, including cost and schedule control
Knowledgeable in engineering software tool implementation
Knowledgeable in engineering design and design process tools such as Doors Next Gen, 3KeyMaster or other similar design tools
Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized requirements documents
Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balance, results oriented analyst and leader.
Able to make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions
Demonstrated project management skills, including cost and schedule control
Experience with change, configuration, document / drawing management
Experience in a regulated industry such as: power, process, marine, medical or pharmaceutical, oil and gas but preferably nuclear under a 10 CFR 50 Appendix B Quality Program for safety-related systems, structures and components
Strong team building skills
Process oriented with ability to facilitate continuous performance improvement
Open communication style and proven ability to develop team relationships
Knowledge of nuclear business products, business processes, customers and competitive environment
Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean certification
