General Electric Software Engineer - Java in West Melbourne, Florida

Role Summary:

The Software Engineer will research, develop, and test software solutions for the PDS software applications using the Java (Swing/FX) language. It is expected the software engineer will also interact with the PDS relational and object databases.

The software engineer will work closely with test engineers and business analysts to ensure the software meets quality standards and fulfills specified requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for programing a software feature or a small feature set using the JAVA (Swing /FX) programming language for the PDS GUI or stand alone JAVA application. You will contribute to the team and work with direction from the Senior Team Members or management.

In this role you will:

  • Be part of an agile team and deliver commitments as a team

  • Develop software in a fast-paced and agile development environment

  • Participate in the software design, development and maintenance tasks on the PDS product

  • Perform application support working closely with the customer support team, to diagnose and resolve customer reported issues and anomalies,

  • Work as an individual contributor and take guidance from software technical leader,

  • Work on core data structures and algorithms

  • Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project

  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, Refactoring and Testing techniques

  • Contribute and support process improvements, which guide the development, sustaining & support activities of the product

  • Understand performance parameters and assess application performance

  • Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience

  • Relational database (e.g. Oracle)
