GE Transportation's Precision Dispatch System (PDS) is an advanced software solution that provides real-time train dispatching functions that direct and control the movement of trains over a railroad network. The PDS is a fault tolerant, highly available software product with applications running on a Linux based server interfacing with Windows based GUI clients.
The Sr. Software Engineer in the role of Software Technical Leader will provide technical expertise to PDS team in developing C++ and JAVA applications in LINUX environment and associated integrations with relational database, real time Object database, messaging software, and WebLogic/JBOSS applications.
The Sr. Software Engineer in the Tech Lead Role will also be expected to provide hands on C++ and/or JAVA programming and test guidance to teams on a day to day basis.
In this role, you will:
Be a member of software team using Agile scrum or kanban methods in a fast paced, deadline driven organization
Provide technical leadership to PDS software teams
Design, develop and implement software solutions for PDS software following established guidelines and quality standards
Collaborate and coordinate with other teams on PDS software updates
Evaluate PDS application code changes for adherence to coding standards, system performance, security and deployment impacts.
Significant participation in defining technical product direction for PDS
Provide technical direction on definition of done and test plans for PDS development efforts
Provide real time troubleshooting and resolution to PDS system in production at customer site(s)
Lead and Contribute to process improvements for development, deployment, sustaining & support activities of the PDS product both in development environment and production environment
Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
Translate requirements/vision into a prioritized list of user stories, with Product Owner, and deliver the implementation to meet required timelines and quality standards Understand performance parameters, as well as other non-functional requirements, assess application performance, and provide recommendations for improvement
Work with Product Line Leaders and Architects to develop multi-generation software technology plans
Communicate effectively both within the immediate team, across teams and with business leadership to align activities and deliverables
Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
A minimum of 8 years of professional experience
Must be willing to work at Melbourne, FL office
