General Electric Turbine Airfoil Lead Design Engineer in West Chester, Ohio

Job Description Summary

In this role, you will participate in the mechanical design of new HPT stage 1 blades for the LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B, GEnx or GE9X, with the objective to mature the design and meet the program objectives in terms of Time On Wing.

The design activities will include all blade characteristics, i.e. casting, machining and coating definition. During the design phase, you will tightly collaborate with the manufacturing teams to ensure producibility and cost control of the new designs. Once designed, you will participate in the the definition and the execution of component tests (PSP, Porcupine) and engine endurance tests, including post-test teardown, hardware evaluation, model correlation.

The objective is also to improve the state-of-the-art of turbine mechanical systems by opening the design space and introducing new technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical for Turbine blades.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource and mentor for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or closely related field of Engineering.

  • Minimum of 3 years of aerospace or mechanical engineering experience in relevant mechanical design

  • Must be a "United States person"

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience in design of Turbine Airfoils or other Superalloy components.

  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.

  • Significant experience with Ansys and Unigraphics.

  • Certification in ASME Y14 or significant practical experience with GD&T.

  • Documented experience of being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.
