General Electric Staff Engineer – Embedded Software in West Chester, Ohio

Job Description Summary

The Staff Engineer demonstrates leadership and program/technical accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role, you will identify/integrate/develop existing and new processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Implement embedded engine software compliant with software plans and industry standards such as DO-178B/C.

  • Gather and translate customer requirements into executable product specifications.

  • Test embedded engine software in both simulation and dry rig hardware in the loop environments.

  • Execute with limited guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements

  • Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements

  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments

  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems

  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments

  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks

  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

  • Perform monthly cost and schedule variance analysis as EVM Software Cost Account Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university

  • A minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering position

Desired Characteristics

  • Familiarity using the following tools: DOORs, SCADE, RTC, SIMICS, and desktop simulation using NPSS.

  • Familiarity with military software qualification (MIL-HDBK 516C) or with DO-178C and commercial aviation software certification.

  • Embedded development experience designing and implementing using C/C++.

  • Experience with Perl, Python, or another scripting utility.

  • Software configuration management and full software life-cycle development.

  • Experience working with networking protocols, including TCP and UDP.

  • Knowledge and experience with multithreading and working in a multicore environment.

  • Knowledge in real time software development for embedded systems.

  • Knowledge of aircraft controls and digital electronic control systems.

  • Experience with requirements documentation and analysis.

  • Firm understanding of the software development process with focus on CMMI and Model Based Development.

  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.

  • Complex component, module or systems level analysis expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan and manage programs

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in coordination / collaboration

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to guide / mentor and influence others
