Job Description Summary
Combustion Design Engineer will report to Combustion Aerodynamics Manager and be responsible for supporting design and development of GE Aviation's next generation combustion technologies.
Job Description
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting design, development, and validation of aviation gas turbine combustion system. Specifically, supporting development rig and engine test campaigns, encompassing planning, monitoring, data reduction and documentation. You will utilize your test experience or technical expertise to solve problems, help develop & execute mitigations, and capture lessons learned for future campaigns. These skills will be applied to new product introduction (NPI) as well as sustaining programs.
Roles and Responsibilities
Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, aerodynamic analysis, design, test, and integration functions required to define and support assigned components, assemblies, and systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements
Prepare and present technical information to internal customers
Perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis including geometry modification & meshing
Use and develop in-house engineering tools to perform aerodynamic evaluations
Set up and execute test programs achieving test objectives within schedule and budget guidelines
Document and communicate aero design, analysis, and test data results
Share engineering information, lessons learned, and promote open dialogue
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
Individual contributor role with proven interpersonal skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university or college (or high school diploma/GED with 6 years' experience in disciplinary engineering and science).
Desired Characteristics
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university with focus on aerodynamics, combustion, or controls
Experience in engine or aircraft aerodynamic design, CFD, or test support
Demonstrated passion for the aviation industry
Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and system
Flexible & friendly approach to working in teams – both domestic and global
Interest in being a self-starter with an eye towards problem solving and driving solutions
Highly motivated, passionate, and exceptional communication skills
Proven facilitation and collaboration skills
Keen listener and innate drive to succeed
Matlab and Python proficiency
