General Electric Advanced Lead Process Engineer - CNC Machining/Programming in West Chester, Ohio

Job Description Summary

Process engineer to be responsible for the design, operation, and implementation of CNC machining processes for additively manufactured (3D printed) hardware. This includes the programming and machining of complex geometries on 5 axis mills, lathes, etc. as well as fixture design and creation to enable machining of additive hardware. Individual will successfully improve industrial processes to maintain efficiency, reduce cost, reduce cycle time, reduce MRB and enable additive complexity.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop best practices, procedures, and innovative solutions related to additive manufacturing. Lead process development related to additive support design, CNC machine setup and programming, and support and stock removal.

  • Program CNC equipment and machine parts in a low volume, high mix environment.

  • Develop, configure, and optimize industrial processes (CNC machining) from inception through to start up. Industrialize by reducing cost and time for an eventual handoff to a high-volume facility.

  • Train team of machinists and programmers in machining processes, best practices, and procedures.

  • Manufacture, source, or specify all required fixturing and tooling.

  • Develop, author, and audit process specific work instructions.

  • Perform risk assessments such as PFMEA.

  • Provide process documentation and operating instructions.

  • Advise design team and manufacturing engineers on support designs and stock additions.

  • Create machine environments and support setup of new CNC equipment from delivery to full rate production.

Required Qualifications

  • CAM/CAD experience, particularly Unigraphics NX.

  • Expert level knowledge of CNC machining processes include 5+ years’ experience in machining and programming.

  • Experience machining/programming 5 axis mills.

  • Formal training or 5+ years of experience with GD&T.

  • Skilled with interpreting technical drawings.

  • Experience machining common aerospace materials like Inconel, aluminum, and titanium.

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining CNC equipment.

  • Ability to assess processes, take measurements, interpret data, and document results.

  • Effectively communicate project outcomes to senior leadership.

  • Lead projects intended to design, run, test and upgrade systems and processes.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.

  • Experience with additive manufacturing.

  • Lean Six Sigma experience and/or formal training.

  • Knowledge of process related standards of GE Aviation.
