Job Description Summary
UX and Usability lead working in GE Healthcare’s Invasive Cardiology business that makes hemodynamic and electrophysiology recording systems. These systems help in treating the most difficult cardiac conditions through enhanced signal-processing and algorithms. By creating smoother workflows and by facilitating more accurate and complete documentation, the recording systems give the end user data needed to deliver exceptional patient care.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a UX designer you will:
Use design activities to understand tacit knowledge about user needs and behaviors
Help define software application screen workflow, application design, button layouts and whole user experience to best meet user needs
Be involved in feature development to understand the abstract problem and updates to the software or hardware side of the application
Create visualizations that effectively summarize key insights related to user and customer needs and behaviors
Ask questions appropriate to translating an abstract problem into a roadmap for identifying solutions
Responsible for the industrial design which includes the applied art and science to improve the functionality, aesthetics, usability, and ergonomics of products or services
Work with central industrial design and UX team to assure appropriate recommendations are pulled into the product to meet GE Healthcare guidelines and to improve marketability, manufacturability, and usability to meet end user needs and for brand development
Along with clinical and product management own user requirements to assure workflow and user needs are met. Write end user level tests that validate user clinical and workflow requirements.
Capture specific information from the audience and validates it back to them for acceptance
Lead and influence business-wide discussions relative to current user experience projects and the future direction of design and user experience
Develop knowledge of market/competitors
Learn the clinical workflow of the product to better design the product
As a Usability leader you will:
Need to understand usability standard IEC 62366-1 for Medical devices and IEC 60601-1-6 Medical Electrical Equipment – Part 1-6: General Requirements for Basic Safety and Essential Performance – Collateral Standard: Usability
Integrate Usability into product design to identify and mitigate potential hazards
Should be able to understand the device intended use, user profile/environment to help define usability to be performed
Interact with end-users, biomedical engineer, and field service for usability and product validation
Define design input and provide usability related input for risk management
Work with internal and external customers to plan, co-ordinate and execute formative and summative usability sessions for new feature development or changes to the product design. Summarize the usability results per the internal work instructions.
Work closely with service on service usability of the product
Work across functions and team boundaries to define, design and implement usability for product and serviceability of the product
Developing methods to test and validate system or subsystem interactions and their effects on clinical application and customer workflow
Bachelor's Degree in Design with advanced experience or Biomedical engineering or Computers science or related engineering or design field with minimum 4 years of experience (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 8 years of experience in Biomedical engineering or Computers science or related engineering or design field)
Skilled in standard design & wireframing tools (like Adobe CC, Sketch), visual communication, prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote).
Ability to use generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios.
Experience with medical product usability and product validation in a fast-paced environment
Experience with IEC 62366 Usability Standard
Experience in testing and delivering safety-critical medical device software
Comfortable working with direct customers or other end users in medical healthcare/device field
Good interpersonal skills and experience working within a global team
