Job Description Summary

Ultrasound system engineer connects the customer (sonographer, radiologist, applications teams) to engineering (HW, SW). Ultrasound image quality and R&D work are two main activities for the position.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in software implementation for innovative future ultrasound projects using MATLAB and C++.

  • Provide domain expertise to serve as the main integrator between the hardware and software functions to deliver the best high quality ultrasound product.

  • Work across functions and team boundaries to define, design, and implement the next generation of products. Work with customers, Marketing and field personnel to refine requirements which can be refined by the engineering teams.

  • Responsible for requirements development, traceability and flow down, architecture / system design and analysis, FMEA, developing/ executing System Verification and Validation test procedures,

  • Develop methods to quantify subsystem interactions and their effects on image quality.

  • Deliver and incorporate feedback results into new hardware, software and service specifications.

  • Design system architecture with an emphasis on the software components for innovative ultrasound projects.

  • Lead continuous improvement activities by driving the implementation of process and product quality improvement initiatives.

  • Establishes product requirements (internal and external), defines components and sub systems making up the overall architecture.

  • Provides forward looking strategy for platforms and technology development.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Provides support to manufacturing and for field issues.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Ultrasound, Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field, and two (2) years of related experience in ultrasound.

  • Alternatively, the employer will accept a PhD in Ultrasound, Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. No experience required with PhD.

  • Position requires ultrasound physics and signal processing knowledge at a graduate level.

  • Position requires software proficiency in both MATLAB and C++. This would include, but not be limited to, the ability to create standalone code in both MATLAB and C++ and navigate and debug large code sets in both languages.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree plus 5 years work experience in ultrasound. PhD plus 2 years work experience in ultrasound.
