Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user’s needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed.

Job requires designing and hands on programming of a small module or a complete feature as a systems engineer. You will work to own the product design independently or work with other team members to contribute to the development needs of the product. This software engineer position is in GE Healthcare’s Invasive Cardiology business that makes hemodynamic and electrophysiology recording system Mac-Lab/CardioLab. These systems help in treating the most difficult cardiac conditions through enhanced signal-processing and algorithms. By creating smoother workflows and by facilitating more accurate and complete documentation, the recording systems give the end user data needed to deliver exceptional patient care.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for design and development of evolving software in a fast-paced environment using the latest software development technologies and by using C++ as the main programming language.

  • Understand whole product, its modules and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module

  • Articulate the need for scalability and understand the importance of improving quality through testing

  • Participate in design reviews and define interfaces between code modules

  • Assess application performance and optimize/improve it through design and best coding practices

  • Help support and maintain existing code base

  • Assure quality system compliance and support regulatory compliance

  • Identify the scope of the work, provide initial estimates, and justify the estimates with facts

  • Demonstrate the understanding of waterfall and agile software development lifecycle

  • Engage in and lead technical discussions

  • Maintain code quality through best practices, unit testing and code that meets standards of well written code

  • Seek and provide feedback on design and development

  • Demonstrate the ability to make informed technology choices after due diligence and impact assessment

  • Work with product leaders to understand product requirements and vision

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • Proficiency in C++/Java programming language

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visual Studio IDE

  • Experience with Git or similar version control system

  • Being able to demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Being able to demonstrate proven ability to work as part of a team and independently

  • Ability to communicate at technical and programmatic levels

  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed

Desired Qualification

  • 3-5 years of experience in coding with C++ on Windows platform

  • Proficiency with advanced C++ concepts including templates, real-time operation, and multi-threading

  • Proficiency with MFC user interface programming

  • Master’s degree in computer science

  • System engineering experience

  • Prior medical field or other regulated industry experience

  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments

  • Able to work under minimal supervision

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity

  • Able to work well with global teams

  • Executes with and promotes trust in the way work is being performed

  • Desire to work and lead in transparent work environment
