Job Description Summary
Release Train Engineer partners cross functionally with product management, technical / design leaders, architects, and globally distributed team of software and applications engineers to deliver software platform to consuming programs. This role acts as the Software Agile Program Manager for the software team and is responsible for facilitating Agile ceremonies related to software release planning and execution. He / she represents the global software engineering team in program/portfolio core team.
Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the Platform Release Train, ensures software development teams adhere to critical Agile metrics/KPIs
Facilitates program increment planning readiness and the planning event, assists data centric tracking of execution for the planned features and capabilities.
Coaches teams and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
Helps manage risks and dependencies; escalates and tracks impediments
Works with product management, product owners, architects, and business owners to help ensure strategy and execution alignment.
Ensures predictability & proactive measures to secure delivery of committed objectives and goals on time and with quality
Ensures quality practices are followed by development teams and brings visibility into key quality metrics
Facilitates scrum of scrums to assist in program execution and program increment tracking
Drives continuous improvement via retrospectives, Inspect and Adapt workshops.
Ensures that the development process abides to the Engineering Quality Procedures, Phased Review Discipline (PRDx) and regulatory needs of the applicable markets
Coordinates Software release & integration activities.
Facilitates cross functional initiatives in process improvements, tools and standardization
Develops and facilitates software configuration management strategy implementation
Bachelors degree within appropriate Engineering/Science discipline, or Bachelors Degree and 2 years of Project Management experience, or equivalent (defined as High School Diploma/GED) and 4 years progressive experience within the discipline.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software design and development with cross-functional teams in industry environment
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in operating with Scaled Agile or LEAN working environment
Experience in all aspects of Agile Software Development Life Cycle in industry environment
Demonstrated ability to build lasting cross-functional relationships, including strong influential and communication skills
Demonstrated execution at meeting project goals while satisfying quality, performance, schedule, and budget CTQ’s
Demonstrated engineering knowledge, program management, and business planning processes, having experience with full product lifecycle
Familiarity with ISO, FDA and other regulatory standards
Masters degree in Engineering or equivalent (defined as 12 years progressive experience within engineering, science, or related field, including 8 years project leadership experience within manufacturing, development, or research development)
Demonstrated experience as Release Train Engineer and/or Scrum Master in Agile software development, SAFe certified
Demonstrated experience with medical device product software development and design history file
Creative problem solver and solution developer when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues
Proven mentoring and coaching abilities; demonstrated ability to motivate & inspire others
Practical knowledge of Quality Management Systems implementation in regulated software industry
Sound technical and domain experience in at least one functional technology area
Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives, demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
Attention to detail and ability work independently toward timely completion of a variety of assignments
Experience working in a global team environment and a cross-functional product development environment
