Role Summary:

GE Healthcare is a world-class provider of diagnostic medical equipment. The Imaging Platform group standardizes the parts, as well as the look and feel of our products. We work to incorporate high-quality sound capture hardware into our systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

Own the design of the hardware through all phases of the design lifecycle, and integration of voice and speech capture hardware into multiple and varied products simultaneously. Build partnership with vendor and manage communications and interactions. Responsibilities also include test, analysis, validation; testing for proper quality. Work closely with our software teams to ensure that the hardware provides adequate quality signals. Develop an architecture that also supports intercom systems between the patient and operator.

• Ownership of sound capture hardware and design from requirements definition to product phase-in

• Manage vendor relations and partnerships for sound capture hardware

• Ownership of product roadmaps related to microphones, mic arrays, speakers, and DSPs

• Interact with software teams to ensure proper interaction between hardware and software

• Direct the work of other engineers on such projects

• Develop effective test strategies to ascertain high quality deliverables

• Perform usability testing and gathering of customer feedback (internal and external)

• Partner with product teams in product roadmap discussions to set technical direction of future development

• Develop multi-generational technology strategies

• Communicate technology strategy in a simple, understandable manner

• Be a technology advocate in business and customer interactions


• BS in Electrical Engineering

• Minimum of 5 years of applicable experience

• Track record of high-quality electrical design engineering

• Proven ability to work with suppliers on complex technology projects in a leadership role

• Experience in audio capture equipment including microphones and mic arrays, as well as speakers

• Understanding of Digital Audio Protocol

• Design experience in Digital Signal Processing, including noise filtering and suppression

• Experience with system and subsystem architectures

• Ability to span multiple engineering disciplines

Desired Characteristics:

• Must be able to work effectively in a global cross-functional team environment

• Excellent teamwork, coordination and communication skills

• Masters in Electrical Engineering

• Working knowledge of electrical design tools and processes

• Familiarity with FDA government regulated design practices

• Effective oral and written communication skills

• Ability to recruit/assemble diverse opinion leaders to influence and shape business and technology decisions

• Contributes to an open environment in which others can share ideas

• Self-starter with strong initiative
