Job Description Summary
The Global MR Patient Handling Platform Team at GE Healthcare designs and delivers the technology hardware implementation of the patient handling subsystem into all magnetic resonant imaging products. The team provides engineering design and development for all mechanical, electrical and digital aspects of the MR patient handling subsystem, including thermal, acoustic, vibration, electronics packaging, table motion, table design, fluid management, and structural design. The team works closely with other hardware platform teams, systems engineering, software, and firmware to integrate and deliver solutions to help improve and enhance our products.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develop robust mechanical designs and hardware solutions for MR patient handling products.
Support current MR system installed base designs and field issues and drive to closure on site issues and investigations.
Work from product specifications and requirements to develop component and assembly geometry, specify materials, and establish acceptable performance standards. Perform complex calculations, analyses, and testing to verify assumptions and performance.
Work independently and possess a level of engineering competency necessary to complete and execute engineering project tasks with minimal oversight.
Seek senior and peer review of project and engineering work to ensure accuracy and rigor. Candidate must be willing to work in an open environment where review and feedback on engineering work is actively sought and freely given.
Engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support.
Prepare using 2D and 3D CAD software, detailed drawings, and component and assembly models complete with calculated dimensions and tolerances.
Prepare engineering change requests, engineering change notices, bills of material, engineering specifications, and customer change requests.
Direct the construction and testing of prototype and pilots, and conduct analysis of the test results.
Interface directly with manufacturing employees to clarify questions on drawings and designs. Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting production issues on standard and special products.
Assist service in troubleshooting field installations, when requested.
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
2-3 years relevant work experience and knowledge of applied mechanical engineering design, analysis, and verification of electronic packaging, mechanisms, and assemblies in a medical environment.
Knowledge of industry and academic practices and standards related to mechanical design and fabrication in a product environment.
Experience with mechanical tools, including hand tools, fabrication tools, and measurement equipment.
Working knowledge of CAD and mechanical modeling tools.
MS in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline.
2-3 years experience working with ProEngineering/Creo for mechanical engineering design of medical products.
Experience working in a strong magnetic field environment.
Knowledge and experience of different forming processes including injection molding, thermoforming, sheet metal design, and the SMT process as applied to MR patient handling tables.
Knowledge and experience of low power electronics module packaging and specific techniques for RF shielding in a MR Scan Room.
Knowledge and experience of various thermal management techniques as applied to electronics modules and packaging.
Knowledge and experience with medical patient handling systems, including but not limited to drive systems, safety interlocks, control system, injection and pressure formed parts, and industrial design.
Understanding of commercial standards as applied to electronic packaging.
Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to manage simultaneous projects.
Excellent teamwork, collaboration and cooperation.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of UL/ETL/IEC standards and how they apply to designs.
