General Electric Lead Systems Engineer in Waukesha, Wisconsin

Job Description Summary

As a member of the Premium CT Advanced Science and Engineering Team, the Lead Systems Engineer works in close collaboration with a cross-functional team made up of engineers, scientists, product management, clinical applications, researchers, customers, marketing and other field teams to define and develop new product technologies to meet customer needs. The Lead Systems Engineer position distinguishes itself by driving technology and teams to implement and evaluate new product innovations with a strong focus on image/signal quality, system safety, and system calibration to drive significant design improvements in product architecture.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead a broad cross-functional team

  • Working across functions and team boundaries to implement and optimize system level image quality and dose management features for new products and technology roadmaps

  • Use broad technical expertise and experience to evaluate and tune complex designs focusing on the areas of image quality, calibration and dose management

  • Providing domain expertise to own/lead technical design reviews, investigation of technical risks, as well as providing innovative solutions to achieve optimal system performance

  • Developing methods to quantify subsystem interactions and their effects on system performance and image quality and then driving them across the team

  • Developing requirements for key system performance parameters as they relate to image quality, system safety, performance and calibration

  • Driving system tradeoff discussions within new product developments by having a full understanding of system architecture and interfaces

  • Investigating customer questions and complaints to provide technical answers and solutions

  • Providing technical leadership for project execution

  • Implementing and teaching engineering principles and standards

  • Driving innovation for competitive technical differentiation

  • Mentoring junior engineers in area of expertise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Medical Physics, Applied Mathematics or a closely related field

  • 3 year of relevant academic or industry experience leading teams or driving technology development

  • Ability to develop timely and effective solutions for challenging design problems

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong understanding of X-ray physics, CT physics, CT imaging and image/signal processing fundamentals

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Medical Physics, Applied Mathematics or a closely related field

  • 5 years of relevant academic or industry experience leading teams or driving technology development

  • Demonstrated record of innovation in technology development

  • Proficient in the use of software tools for analysis, modeling and simulations

  • Experience with CT specific device operation and troubleshooting issues

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with research collaborations

  • Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, matrixed, and customer focused environment

  • Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives
