Job Description Summary
Lead System Designer (LSD) is the MR platform technical design leader. The LSD leads system design, architecture and vision definition, development, integration and testing of the platform, with specific focus on software enablers, clinical applications, and integration with hardware components roadmap. LSD leads a cross-functional engineering team to deliver the technical content, performance, safety, intellectual property and quality deliverables of multiple products and NPIs, also known as MR platform carriers.
Roles and Responsibilities
Work closely with product definition, clinical and marketing teams to clearly understand customer needs. Develop effective system performance requirements from customer/user requirements. Responsible for system requirements flow down and allocation to the subsystem teams.
Work closely with customers, marketing, applications, chief engineers, principal engineers, service and field personnel to define platform quality targets and ensure key CTQs are satisfied to accomplish no surprises post M3 product releases.
Lead planning and execution for platform technical design reviews, technical discussions and lead the investigation, execution and retirement of technical risks as they arise on the platform to achieve best optimization in system performance and image quality.
Drive system architectural tradeoff discussions within the platform by having a full understanding of system architecture & interfaces. Lead engineering team in technical content decision closure, product risk management, design reviews and the design history file.
Support Principal Engineers and Architects to define MR product roadmap and competitive landscape analysis with emphasis on system architecture and safety.
Lead the design team and design control process from requirements development and design planning to verification, validation and design transfer, field and customer support including corrective and preventative actions to ensure customer satisfaction.
Responsible for the identification of improvement areas to drive continuous improvement for efficiency and simplification to enable the system engineering team to more easily, effectively and consistently facilitate the execution of projects.
Work across functions and team boundaries to help define, design, and implement the next generation of MR products.
Has design responsibility to ensure that the platform achieves all design objectives required to meet customer and business needs, including: feature and functionality, quality, safety, reliability, service-ability, manufacture-ability, and regulatory compliance
Communicate effectively and influence technical teams to deliver.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Science or Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience within technical discipline or equivalent (defined as High School Diploma/GED and 4 years progressive experience as an engineer, scientist within the appropriate field of study or within technicalsystems designs).
5 years progressive experience as an engineer or scientist within the appropriate field of study.
3 years experience in project leadership within a product development or research environment.
Demonstrated experience driving CTQ flow-down to subsystems.
Demonstrated ability to work with technical leadership team to implement product platform/subsystem multi-generation technology plan for a specific release of a global program/product.
Demonstrated broad exposure to HW/SW/Systems design and technical depth in one or more engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc).
Ph.D. Degree in Engineering or Science: Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Medical Physics, or closely related field.
5 years of experience in engineering project leadership within a product development or research environment.
Strong knowledge of MR software, MR physics, MR system design and MR clinical image quality.
Broad exposure to MR software/applications; technical depth in one or more engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc.).
Experience with MR scanner operation, design and troubleshooting issues.
Ability to work with technical leadership team to implement product multi-generation technology plan for a specific release of a global product.
Ability to analyze complex issues and decompose these into a manageable set of tasks, then pursue tasks to completion.
Demonstrated experience driving DFSS and CTQ flow-down to subsystems.
Demonstrated experience with GEHC Design Controls Procedures, NPI ISO and regulatory compliance process, design history files.
Demonstrated skills in proactively identifying, facilitating and driving closure of actions and technical risks for a product.
Demonstrated experience in leading projects with global teams.
