General Electric Lead Mechanical Engineer, Thermal in Waukesha, Wisconsin
The Thermal Engineer role in MR will focus on design and implementation of the thermal systems which support the system operation. Provide technical support to the installed base issues; Work with senior team members to develop thermal subsystems for new product development, including chillers, heat exchangers, cold plates, heat sinks and electronic packaging; Perform thermal analysis and thermal studies; Develop techniques to manage heat in a strong magnetic field and high power environment.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Support issues with the thermal subsystems in the installed base. This includes initial investigation of the issue, working with the MR team engineering and suppliers to develop and implementation cost effective solutions.
Develop and implement concepts for quality improvements and cost reduction around the thermal subsystems.
Work from product specifications and requirements to develop thermal systems to support the requirements. Perform thermal calculations and thermal analysis to evaluate the design. Develop testing to verify assumptions and performance.
Leverage knowledge in advanced aspects of technical/functional areas and apply technical theory and practical experience with input from relevant functional areas to solve complex problems
Work independently and possess a level of functional expertise necessary to influence and execute technical and project delivery execution
Work with patient/customers and/or program leadership to ensure that the project deliverables are consistent with the goals of larger programs or initiatives
Support mentoring of junior technical talent
Own the technologies that support competitive technical differentiation
Engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support
Prepare using 2D and 3D CAD software, detailed drawings, and component and assembly models complete with calculated dimensions and tolerances.
Prepare engineering change requests, engineering change notices, bills of material, engineering specifications, and customer change requests.
Direct the construction and testing of prototype and pilot products, and conduct analysis of the test results.
Lead complex, cross-functional projects with participants across multiple functional areas. (time-plan, resource needs, status reports, cost monitoring, resource usage, technology requirements, and risk retirement)
Interface directly with manufacturing employees to clarify questions on drawings and designs. Assist Manufacturing in troubleshooting production issues on standard and special products.
Act as activity leader of department activities within a project (time-plan, resource needs, status reports, cost monitoring, resource usage, technology requirements, etc.)
Provide technical supervision of employees and resource contractors
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
4 years experience and knowledge of applied thermal mechanical engineering design, analysis, and verification of mechanisms, and assemblies in a medical environment.
Knowledge of industry and academic practices and standards related to mechanical design and fabrication.
Working knowledge of Mechanical Thermal aspects of system design and integration.
Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional project team

MS in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline
6-8 years experience and knowledge of applied thermal mechanical engineering design, analysis, and verification of mechanisms, and assemblies in a medical environment.
Experience developing cold plates as applied to electronics cooling
Experience with thermal system designs
Understanding of commercial standards as applied to thermal systems
Demonstrated technical leadership capability in integration activities
Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills
Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets
Global project experience
Knowledge of UL/ETL/IEC standards and how they apply to designs
Working knowledge of GEHC tools and processes
