General Electric Sr Engineer 3 - Systems Engineering in Trevose, Pennsylvania
The Systems Engineer will architect new locomotive designs that provide competitive differentiation and will ensure compliance to customer requirements by creating and utilizing predictive simulation and modeling tools. Specific expertise will be sought in the areas of thermal and mechanical systems.
Serve as a recognized leader in defining state-of-the-art system designs for locomotive applications
Anticipate, develop, and apply technologies to current and future locomotive products to promote competitive differentiation
Predict behavior of locomotive thermal and mechanical systems through the creation and utilization of performance models to maximize overall system efficiency and anticipate system interactions
Provide systems engineering leadership to teams working assigned projects
Collaborate closely with product management and customer facing service teams for key requirements gathering
Translate customer needs through clear articulation of requirements and decomposition of requirements for subsystem design execution
Remain current in advanced technologies for new product introduction, performance improvement, cost reduction, and problem resolution
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers
Leverage expertise to resolve problems uncovered during the manufacturing process and those found in the field
Formulate and communicate recommendations after thorough evaluation of data & completion of formal trade studies
Protect the intellectual property rights of the company
Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements
Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Effectively communicate technical aspects of system activities vertically and horizontally in the organization
Promote simplification and implement initiatives to continuously improve the responsiveness of the organization to customer / business needs
Ensure positive actions are taken to encourage personal growth, technical development, and improved interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 10 years of experience in an Engineering position
Demonstrated skills in modelling systems and solving problems with Matlab and Excel
Working knowledge of locomotive subsystems with some level of expertise in thermal and mechanical systems
Desire to learn and employ new tools and methods
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
Ability to "think outside the box"
Ability to formulate strategies with senior management and demonstrated experience in implementing these strategies
Proven track record of delivering results and leading teams in dynamic business environment
