Serve as the Human Resources Business Partner for GE's New Business Creations team, providing HR expertise to this innovative team.
New Business Creations is part of GE Business Innovations, a team whose purpose focuses on building new companies that drive growth, transform industries and impact lives. They aim to deliver breakthrough market opportunities and technology solutions that scale while creating value at the intersection of new ventures & industrial expertise. The team leads efforts from ideation to incubation to growth, working with the greater GE businesses to identify and seed these start-up opportunities. With 8 companies launched in the past 3 years, the team is scaling its proven abilities to accelerate growth for GE.
The Human Resources Business Partner, New Business Creation is a key member of the leadership of the New Business Creations team. This role will manage the human capital strategy, planning and execution for company creation process by partnering with the team through their identification and development of new start-up companies, ‘Newcos’. The ideal candidate for this role is a leader with extensive experience influencing and partnering with Managing Partner/Managing Director/C-suite leadership on human capital strategy and decision making at ideation/incubation stage, strategic workforce planning and implementation, and standing up the people/HR infrastructure for newcos, including but not limited to benefits, payroll, etc. This leader should come with an extensive network within the start-up ecosystem of partners and providers and be able to leverage to tailor solutions for newcos based on strategic vision and growth plan. The role will report into the Human Resources Business Partner for Business Innovations for GE, partnering together on complex, first-time growth actions for GE’s newcos.
Develop strong partnership and trust with Managing Partner, Managing Director, EIR/interim-CEO and C-suite leaders to advise on human capital strategy and planning across newcos from pipeline / ideation phase to incubation and eventually growth/scale mode
Lead early stage recruitment efforts including partnering with MP/MD/C-suite leaders to identify executive and technical talent, manage onboarding in partnership with shared services / operations team, execute against timelines and goals
Lead strategic workforce planning, develop recruiting plans, and navigate GE matrix to deliver against aggressive recruitment goals with speed
Create and implement the ‘off-ramping’ transition process for newcos when moving from incubation to accelerated growth/scaling mode, include transition to hire dedicated functional leadership (HR, Legal, Finance, +); develop playbook for executing the transition seamlessly / without interruption to business delivery for employees and leadership in partnership with shared services partners
Partner with HRBP, Business Innovations to successfully navigate GE matrix environment to effectively and strategically partner with greater GE team members including but not limited to: Talent Acquisition, Executive Compensation, Pension Board leadership, HR Operations, Labor and Employment Attorneys, etc
Develop and implement creative compensation solutions aligned to business goals and metrics in partnership with HRBP, BI + Executive Compensation; stand-up equity plans and accountable for delivery of in-progress compensation plans which may include annual bonuses and carry plans amongst others
Lead and navigate with a solutions-oriented mindset to find creative solutions to scaling a new company within GE, with close partnership with Finance, Legal, and HRM across business units.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in human resources leadership in start-up ecosystem including but not limited to incubators, Venture Capital firms, Corporate Venture Capital, Private Equity, successful start-ups with proven exits
Experience setting up and implementing newco equity compensation plans and transitioning employees from one compensation plan to another during / through funding and major milestone events; experience in structuring and communicating complex and unique compensation plans to employees
Proven success in working in highly dynamic and matrix organizations. Must have experience in supporting senior level executives, global and virtual teams.
Experience in leading human capital scaling major growth milestones for companies i.e. scaling from 1 employee to 50 employees; from 50 employees to 100 employees + Desired Characteristics:
Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Human Resources(MHR, MLIR, MBA)
Experience working in Corporate matrix environment in addition to working directly as HR for start-up, in VC firm, CVC, PE firm
Experience in leading organizational design and talent development in partnership with C-suite leadership, specifically scaling new businesses/efforts
