Job Description Summary
The Design Engineer will be responsible for shaping lay-out and arrangement solutions of small Hydro powerplants, owning the integration of Turbine, Generator, the corresponding Auxiliaries, Controls and Balance of Plant. This responsibility goes throughout the entire life cycle from conceptual design through design and development, erection, test and field support. He/she will therefore interact both with tendering and project execution teams. In constant coordination with other team members, the Design engineer will be responsible for distributing the electro-mechanical equipment such as – depending on the specific cases -, skids, pumps, valves, lighting, panels, cubicles, power transformers, ventilation ducts, over entire power plant as power house, dam and surge tank, and directly for the design (conceptual or detailed depending on the cases) of connecting works such as cabling and piping. The Design Engineer will drive technical excellence in the design of the solutions applied, avoiding interferences, and will therefore also contribute to the continuous development of the most adequate optimized just-right solutions for this scope.
Roles and Responsibilities
Work cross-functionally in teams with engineering, sourcing, product, quality, planning, field support and others to improve first pass yield.
Work with design engineers, customers, functional leaders to meet powerplant and powerplant support requirements.
Responsible for designing solutions integrating primarily equipment within power houses; this will sometimes include dam and switchyard.
Develop optimized basis solutions integrating proven electro-mechanical products
Support the tendering team in applying these developments
Hold ownership of design related documents like component drawings, assembly drawings, BoM, etc.
Drive resolution of issues arising during project execution
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Drive best practices across organization – better documenting of parts and assemblies, tracking issues to separate special cause "mistakes" from features needing improvements.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
5+ years of Engineering or other technical experience;
Experience in developing 3D drawings;
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
Good English verbal and written language skills;
Ability to work dynamically with global team members across cultural boundaries;
Good experience in sizing piping and cabling systems;
Experience with lay-out design;
Energy Generation experience; possibly including exposure to site experience
Knowledge of 3D-CAD tools like NX or PDMS;
Background in mechanical and electrical design engineering;
