General Electric Lead Product Safety System Engineer in Talahassee, Florida

Role Summary:

The Product Safety System Engineer provides consultation and technical direction to design teams and management teams on near term and longer-range projects relative to product safety requirements and risk estimation and management, including applicable regulations and standards. Also considered are risk assessment of events occurring on released products.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Product Safety System Engineer for GE Transportation Digital Solutions• Understand and communicate regulatory requirements and industry standards, and provide interpretations to the business

  • Periodically interact with US Federal Railway Administration (FRA) for domestic issues and concerns.

  • Interact with regulatory and safety certification bodies / Independent Safety Authorities (ISA’s) as needed for product accreditation for international products.

  • Review existing and anticipated product designs for GE Transportation Digital Solutions products to ensure product compliance to safety regulations

  • Develop project specific Safety Program Plans

  • Perform safety analyses such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (SFMEA), Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), etc. as needed

  • Provide input for development and maintenance of internal processes related to product safety

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Science or other field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in an engineering, safety or compliance role

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with software development including demonstrable experience in assessing software for safety risk analysis and designing functional safety and safety critical requirements for risk mitigation.

  • Knowledge of locomotive applications

  • System Engineering methodologies

  • Software design, development, and programming experience

  • Control system experience

  • Experience working with governments and regulatory agencies

  • Credentialed / Licensed Professional Engineer qualifications will be considered.

  • Experience with US FRA regulations and Association of American Railroads (AAR) standards

  • Experience using safety analysis tools and methodologies (i.e. FHA, FTA, FT Cut Sets, FMEA, QRA, etc.)
