Job Description Summary
In this role, you will perform a wide variety of complex electrical maintenance work to support operations at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s Vallecitos Nuclear Center (GEH VNC), a commercial nuclear research and development facility. Responsibilities include installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration and/or rearrangement of electrical panels, bus ways, electrical equipment, and complex machines. Additionally, you will direct other personnel and subcontractors to support business needs.

Performs duties and tasks conforming to all governing safety regulations and procedures – OSHA, NEC, NFPA, NRC, NC building codes, GE EHS, etc. Keep facilities, materials, and work areas clean and orderly, exercising good housekeeping practices.
Required to follow Operating Procedures and other written safety requirements to perform maintenance tasks and operate machines and equipment to check work performed and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition.
Perform mechanically related work such as motor and pump replacement, repair, millwright work etc. as necessary to support business needs.
Responsible for cleaning, repair, trouble shooting, megging of low voltage systems (480 VAC).
Maintain and install medium voltage feeder relays.
Test, program and maintain automatic trip units for low voltage draw out style breakers.
Support manufacturing by trouble shooting 480 VAC systems involving LT, ST and GF faults.
Maintain and trouble shoot outdoor lighting systems containing photo cells, contactors, poles and arms as well as changing lamps.
Wire pulling, electrical component installation, which includes conduit bending and installation.
Direct, advise and inspect electrical work by subcontractors as well as lead subcontractors in work scope involving maintenance and repair of medium and low voltage switches and substations.
Maintaining inventory of electrical equipment and supplies such as, but not limited to, breakers, automatic trip units, fuses, lightning arrestors, splice kits, tools etc.
Maintain and inventory electrical safety equipment such as level 2 arc flash kit, shot gun stick, telescoping hot stick, finger stick, insulation blankets and pins, system grounds etc.
Work with other facility team members of other disciplines in primary lead and secondary roles
Lead other organizations and subcontractors in LOTO and safety practices.
Read and interpret complicated mechanical, P&ID, electrical power, ladder logic, and instrument loop drawings.
Must work with minimum supervision, exercising independent judgment relative to techniques and methods pertinent to assigned area of responsibility. Interface with supervision, work associates, vendors and others requesting support services.
High School/GED or trade school graduate.
Must be a Journeyman Electrician
At least three (3) years of experience with low and medium voltage delta and wye systems
At least three (3) years of experience with working on 480 and higher voltage equipment and components
At least three (3) years of experience with reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings, sketches and schematics
At least three (3) years of experience reading and understanding complex equipment technical manuals
At least three (3) years of experience with logical troubleshooting
At least two (2) years of experience with cleaning, testing, configuring trip units, and maintaining 480 volts draw out type circuit breakers
At least two (2) years of experience troubleshooting electrical systems using voltage, amp meter and megger
Work requires intense mental concentration to safely perform machine and equipment repair.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, read complex technical manuals.
Ability to move around equipment, climb and work at elevated levels and in confined spaces. Ability to use ladders, go into pits and climb scaffolds. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and work in awkward positions while performing maintenance tasks.
Ability and willingness to work in Radiological Controlled Access Areas, pass pulmonary function test and wear proper radiological personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators and SCBA/forced breathing air.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Ability to work in cold/heat.
Ability to operate a computer.
Ability and willingness to work overtime and weekends without previous notice as necessary to meet business maintenance requirements.
Ability and willingness to pass background check and site security requirements to obtain and maintain access to safeguards, and unescorted access to protected GEH Vallecitos areas.
Valid Driver’s License. Must obtain VNC fork truck certification.
Experience in nuclear industry.
Experienced radiation worker.
Working knowledge electrical and electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, optical pyrometers, calibrators, etc.
At least three (3) years of experience with determining dimensions, mechanical fit up, roundness, alignment using equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, etc.
Experience operating various types of machine equipment such as saws, shears, drill press, punch press, etc.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft suite, access and retrieval of information from the Internet, and experience updating maintenance and shop systems.
Experience with, and ability to interpret and select the minimum PPE and tool requirements from NFPA-70E when performing electrical work.
