General Electric Team Lead - Controls Verification and Validation in Stafford, United Kingdom

Job Description Summary

The role involves working in alignment with other engineering leads. This role is to ensure that our control systems are thoroughly integrated and verified, to maximum possible extent, within the factory and then re-verified together with the remainder of the HVDC scheme during the static and dynamic commissioning process at site including after sales operation support. We have delivery centres in St Priest, France, Stafford, UK & Noida, India and the candidate needs to ensure collaboration across all of our delivery centres and to drive to the maturity of both parts of our organization. Communication and status reporting will be essential to build a strong one team culture.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the Verification & Validation activities, activities across a large engineering team and manage the teams ensuring performance against goals, standards, annual objectives.

  • Workload planning for a team as well as tracking overall work progress.

  • Planning and execution of RTDS modelling and verification studies including supporting RTDS hardware set-up.

  • Ensures that process, policies and procedures are defined and adhered to.

  • Follow the departmental standard installation/testing, quality & HSE (Health, Safety & environment) practices and guidelines.

  • Ensure project on-time delivery and reduce Cost of Poor Quality.

  • Be Involved from the requirements phase, ensuring requirements are SMART and testable

  • Manage the testing for the full hardware and software development lifecycle test management.

  • Establish a process to assess, review and record the testing needs and boundaries of each project to ensure that the control system is verified to the maximum extent possible before leaving the factory.

  • Generate plans, procedures and specifications for the Development of Integration System Tests, Full System Tests, and Factory Acceptance Tests and Commissioning Tests at site plans and procedures.

  • Develop, maintain and Prepare Test Management Plans & Solutions.

  • Accurate reporting and record keeping on Progress and Issues.

  • Maintain a solid assessment of Verification and Validation workload across the delivery centres and contribute to the overall monitoring and review of workload for the business.

  • The Enforcement of engineering disciplines and set processes across all work tasks and adherence to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions (e.g. through training, technical reviews).

  • Reviewing the validation and verification team’s skills, identifying any shortfalls or skills gaps to ensure the necessary training, guidance and mentoring of Engineers is in place.

  • To set an example and actively observes performance against measurable criteria.

  • To provide constructive feedback where appropriate.

  • To Provide immediate feedback and seek to correct behaviors of the team that do not foster a good culture or contribute towards unsafe behavior or bad practices that jeopardize our achievements.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Essential - Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.

  • Essential - Demonstrable Team Leadership experience

  • Essential - Experience of Test Management Systems

  • Essential - Experience within Software Development Organization

  • Essential - HVDC Controls Systems Knowledge, but not essential other types of controls systems awareness is applicable. (Testing of embedded systems, VxWorks based systems, communication protocols, MATLAB Simulink)

  • Experience of Leading team of control system validation & verification

  • Knowledge of Control and Protection cubicle Circuit Diagram, field cabling protection relays, HV/MV/LV switchgear, IED’s and Distributed control system.

  • Knowledge Awareness of Software Build Management (Jenkins, Bamboo)

  • Knowledge Awareness of Configuration Management (Git, SVN)

  • Awareness Software development and software project delivery processes

  • Knowledge of Agile development practices (e.g. Certified Scrum Master)

  • Knowledge of Test Driven Design techniques (e.g. CI/Continuous Integration, Unit Testing, Automated Regression testing)

  • Knowledge of Requirements Management; Requirements Capture, RQM tools, Doors

  • Knowledge of Change Control and issue tracking (e.g. CCB, Jira)

  • Knowledge of Release Management and associated procedures; testing and notes, version control etc
