General Electric Lead Commercial Controllership Analyst in Singapore, Singapore

Job Description Summary

As an integral member of the Asia Technical and Commercial Controllership team, the Lead Commercial Controllership Analyst will support commercial controllership activities within the various Asia regions of ASEAN Korea ANZ (AKA), China, India and Japan and represents all businesses in GE Healthcare; Imaging, Ultrasound, Life Care Solutions, Healthcare Digital and Pharmaceutical Diagnostics. This role will be working with the Regional Commercial Controllers to ensure strong commercial processes in compliance with the revenue recognition requirements of US GAAP. This position will report to the Asia Commercial Controller and will also have strong interaction with the Regional Commercial Controllers related to controllership projects, commercial activities and technical accounting consultation.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the Asia Commercial Controller and Asia Regional Finance Teams (AKA, China, India and Japan) in addressing commercial and revenue recognition questions;

  • Lead the annual review and development of estimated selling prices for HCS Equipment, which is to be used in the ASC 606 revenue allocation process (referred to as EITF 08-1 or “08-1”), and lead the quarterly 08-1 calculation to determine the revenue to be recognized;

  • Drive improvement on controls and activities relating to calculation of revenue deferral under EITF 08-1 guidelines;

  • Assist the Global Controllership team and Asia Commercial Controller in the review of commercial contracts and upfront involvement in structuring terms & conditions on customer contracts; Collaborate within the Asia Technical and Commercial Controllership team in continuous training and education across business functions;

  • Assist the Asia Commercial Controller and other Global Controllership counterparts in research of technical accounting materials and the review and completion of technical accounting memos

  • Support the Asia Commercial Controller in landscaping regional business process, assessment of risks and alignment of best practices;

  • Support the Global Controllership Technical team in various global standardization projects and/or Lean initiatives;

  • Perform ad hoc special projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance;

  • Minimum 2 years progressive accounting or finance experience;

  • Knowledge of US GAAP, especially on Revenue Recognition (ASC 606), or IFRS equivalent;

  • Strong analytic skills: able to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers, generate alternatives and drive positive change;

  • Clear thinking / problem solving: successfully led cross-functional projects/process improvement within operations/finance function involving process improvement; able to grasp new ideas quickly; able to understand system, data and its correlation and limitations and linking it to Finance and Controllership objectives;

  • Excellent communication skills: experience working across multiple functions and regions; able to deliver message effectively verbally and in writing;

  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others;

  • Confidence / Assertiveness: strong influencing skills across business functions; confidence to approach business leaders with difficult messages and defend position; for example, work closely with business leaders to achieve business objectives while driving controllership/GE Values;

  • Experience working in global business environment with sound understanding of global process and transactional flows;

  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a matrixed environment;

  • Adaptable/flexible: being open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations;

Desired Characteristics

  • CPA or equivalent designation strongly preferred; or demonstrated technical accounting skills

  • Trained and/or certified in process improvement methodology such as LEAN or Six Sigma

  • Solid PC skills: experience with financial systems/applications (i.e.: Oracle, OBIEE, Business Objects, etc.), strong Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e. pivot tables, VLookup, & Macros)

  • Exposure in non-Controllership activities

  • Experience working with multiple regions

  • Graduated from FMP / or very similar Financial Management Programme from a multinational company
