General Electric Legal Counsel in Shanghai, China

Job Description Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to work as a strategic business partner by providing legal support on matters, transactions, initiatives and projects relating to GE Healthcare’s business across China. He/she may also work collaboratively with other Legal and Compliance colleagues as well as other functional groups to deliver results in alignment with business development strategies. This position will be based in Shanghai and report to a senior legal counsel of GE Healthcare China.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently working with internal clients to drive business growth and commercial excellence, e.g., structuring, negotiating and closing business transactions and strategic projects

  • Advising business leaders on strategic direction; managing risks in relation to transactional and operational matters

  • Monitoring and providing advice on legal and regulatory developments that may impact GE Healthcare China’s business

  • Identifying and driving opportunities to increase operational efficiency within the Legal team

  • Developing and supporting the implementation of company policies and procedures

  • Leading/Participating in cross-functional projects and initiatives

  • Handling litigation and investigation matters

  • Handling other critical tasks as may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Law degree from a recognized law school; LLM or equivalent advanced law degree from outside China is a plus

  • PRC bar; admission to major overseas jurisdictions is a plus

  • Minimum 8 years PQE with a mixture of both in-house and top-tier law firm experience

  • Strong business acumen; excellent critical thinking ability and communication skills with a collaborative and result-driven mindset

  • Ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment with conflicting demands

  • High maturity level to work autonomously and deal with multiple stakeholders across all levels

  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (both verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure in the healthcare or life science industry

  • Knowledge and experience in specialized domains
