General Electric Vehicle Equipment Operator in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

The Vehicle Equipment Operator will operate all site heavy equipment in support of facilities related functions to include backhoes, excavators, cranes, dump trucks, concrete saws, fork trucks, bulldozer, street sweeper, etc.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Secure job assignment and partial instructions for diverse work using complicated facilities and diverse materials.

  • Interpret sequence of operations. Select and obtain tools, facilities and materials.

  • Working from drawings, sketches, diagrams, instructions, manuals, etc. make all necessary tests and observations to diagnose and isolate equipment trouble.

  • Make all necessary adjustments to electric or electronic circuitry, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical linkages and devices, etc. to correct faulty operation.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, tune-ups, service repairs, major and minor overhauls, including rebuild all types of engines, transmissions, axels, transfer cases, brake systems, steering, electric and hydraulic systems, and equipment.

  • Check out vehicles and equipment after repairs to assure proper operation and performance. Answer emergency calls at all times.

  • Operate tow truck, service van, etc.

  • Acquire and maintain a minimum of a (3G) position weld certification using the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc) welding process. Certify every six months that welding has been performed within those past six months. Weld, cut and braze as required.

  • Perform all repair work on equipment such as air hammers, rock drills, trailers, dollies, cross cars, locomotives, etc.

  • Fabricate new parts such as locomotive coupling parts, tongues etc.

  • Perform inter-plant pickups and deliveries of material and production equipment and apparatus. Make deliveries to and from local vendors of production support material.

  • Perform all snow removal operations to include the preparation and operation of wheel loaders, plow trucks, salters, etc.

  • Operate all site heavy equipment in support of facilities related functions to include backhoes, excavators, cranes, dump trucks, concrete saws, fork trucks, bulldozer, street sweeper, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Discipline or (High School Diploma/GED with Military Vehicle Repair certification)

Eligibility Requirement

  • Acquire and maintain a valid NYS vehicle and heavy equipment inspection license and an OSHA industrial vehicle inspection certificate

  • Acquire and maintain a valid NYS Commercial Drivers License. CDL Class “A” license

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime

Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum 2 years of industry related experience

Experience in the Mechanical and Electrical field
