General Electric Senior Technical Leader - Advanced Repair in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

The Advanced Repair team is responsible for the creation of methods, processes and tools that are utilized in unplanned maintenance activities such as Major Component Exchanges and Uptower Repairs to Service Onshore Wind Turbines. The team focuses on the installed base to increase safety, reduce contractual backlog, increase transactional sales opportunities, and align to the Services Product Growth Playbook. The Technical Leader (TL) will be responsible for setting and maintaining technical/quality standards within the Advanced Repair space. They will own and drive technical excellence for the team. They will work closely with the Advanced Repair Leader, SIL, Global Technical Operations, PMO, ENG Segments, Regional FRO, Control Title Holders and business leaders to ensure technical excellence and rigor in the Advanced Repair space.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction, leadership & mentorship to team members, both domestic and global. Review work and approve deliverables ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance.

  • Stay current with program level risks and develop mitigation strategies with PMs, PLL, management, Control Title Holders, Subject Mater Experts, SILs, etc.

  • Ensure team compliance with internal processes and documentational standards throughout program development

  • Design, develop and validate repair processes/tools meeting customer and business requirements. Prove out safety and functionality.

  • Establish and maintain the team’s design quality/documentation standards and best practices for Design Reviews, eDRB, PLM, etc.

  • Establish, own and maintain standard work, Design Practices and risk assessment/mitigation strategies within Advanced Repair

  • Demonstrate accountability for functional and business objectives. Participate in operations planning (SII/Op Plan) and growth initiatives.

  • Technical advisement of RDC shop activities as required

  • Role model and promote the use of Design Thinking methods to improve project solutions, customer pull and throughput.

  • Lead, facilitate or coach design workshops as required

  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the Repair & Installation Systems team and work closely with other TLs/SILs to maintain team synergies, lessons learned and best practices.

  • Communicate with management on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues.

  • Stay current and abreast of academic & industry technology trends, conference proceedings, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to climb wind turbines and work at heights

  • Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 10% of the time

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in Product Service, Field Service, Outage and/or Repair

  • Systems level thinking

  • Ability to identify critical questions and risks with limited or partial information - convert these into actionable requirements.
