General Electric Senior Engineer - Rigging Repair in Schenectady, New York

Role Summary:

The Repair Technology team is responsible for the creation of methods, processes and tools that are utilized to install, maintain and service Wind Turbines. The Senior Engineer will be the team expert in Rigging, Lifting Devices and mobile crane applications. They will increase team capability through technical guidance and the creation of internal technical best practices. The Engineer will also provide technical advice pertaining to material handling and other prototyping activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Senior Engineer - Rigging Repair, you will:

  • Detail design of Rigging, Lifting Devices, Stands, Transportation Fixtures and other structural elements used for Wind Service Repair applications

  • Be a role model, promote and train the Repair Technology Team on industry practices that pertain to rigging, hoisting and cranes

  • Be a team expert on GE Design Practices and Global Technical Regulations & Standards that pertain to Rigging, Lifting Devices, Cranes and other material handling practices used for Wind Service Repair applications

  • Develop and document lift plans and methods utilized in the RDC

  • Create templates and tools that can be utilized to verify / create lift plans for various lifting devices

  • Support Technical Leader in developing, implementing & maintaining (Repair) Design Practices that pertain to Rigging, Lifting Devices, Cranes and other material handling practices used for Wind Service Repair applications

  • Work cross functionally with Chief’s Office, Services Engineering, Wind Field Services and others to improve GE Renewables standards for Rigging, Lifting Devices, crane and other material handling practices used in Wind Service applications

  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work / reviews and responsiveness to customer / program needs

  • Provide technical direction, both domestic and global, to Repair Technology Engineers as assigned

  • Review work ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance

  • Stay current and abreast of academic & industry technology trends, conference proceedings, etc.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical or equivalent)

  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience with Mobile Cranes, Rigging and/or Lifting Devices

Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum of 5 years in Mobile Cranes, Rigging and/or Lifting Devices

  • Ability to create lift plans and select appropriate crane based off load weight, capacity charts, site layout, etc.

  • Experience with CAD drawing and FEA software (NX / AutoCAD / Solidworks / ANSYS / Creo / etc.)

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Proven project management experience

  • Hands on service / repair experience

  • Qualified Rigging and Signal Person

  • Proven field engineer experience

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of organizations and individuals in global locations

  • Ability and willingness to challenge status quo, without allegiance to past or current practices and technology, to get to the best GE products

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, leadership, and business skills. Ability to interact with both senior management and hourly technicians

  • Creative and open mindset

  • Proven record of being team oriented and results driven

  • Ability and willingness to climb wind turbines and work at heights

  • Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 15% of the time when required
