General Electric Sales & Use Tax Manager - Process & Data Management in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

The Manager, Sales & Use Tax – Process and Data Management, enables and supports the execution of quality services for GE Company (and its affiliates) by providing functional guidance to the Sales & Use tax team members. This role ensures systems, documentation, compliance and reporting are in place to lead to enable ongoing continuous improvements of the sales and use tax processes. This role will assist the Sales and Use Tax Leader in managing the overall efficiency of the function, supporting tax compliance processes, timely identification and resolution of data quality issues, and managing unabsorbed credits and refund claims. This role will also be the primary liaison with external service providers and internal IT teams to ensure sales and use tax applications are maintained.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business support teams, audit and controversy team, external service providers, as well as internal business partners (Buy-2-Pay, accounts payable and IT teams) to ensure seamless flow of data for accurate sales and use tax reporting.

  • Act as System Key User Lead. Actively initiate and participate in improvements to sustain a highly effective and efficient process, focusing on cost reduction opportunities including standardize processes to optimize investments made in global ERP systems and financial services.

  • Manage training for applicable systems for end-users, and outsourced operations

  • Provide guidance and support to businesses regarding indirect tax issues related to applications/tax engine

  • Manage day-to-day activities for the sales and use tax team, including:

  • Update and maintain Tax Master Data, as required.

  • Manage process for reporting Key Performance Metrics (KPIs), as defined by the Sales and Use Tax Leader and Senior Management

  • Management of exemption/resale certificates

  • Management of business registration process for business supported by Corporate

  • Visualization of data to highlight areas needing improvement (e.g. aging credits, data quality issues)

  • Assist with detailed data requests to support indirect tax audits, compliance projects and other special projects, as requested

  • Assist in revising and developing indirect tax related SOPs

  • Work with external service provider and State and Local Administrative Assistant to maintain sales and use tax calendar, notice log and other data intensive projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field.

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of public accounting experience or equivalent in industry

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multinational, matrix organization

  • Experience managing projects driving performance (e.g. ERP/Tax Engine implementation)

  • Strong technical background that includes an understanding of the relationship between sales and use tax technical issues and solutions and the compliance process.

  • Strong project management skills, ability to multitask.

  • Experience working with project management, data quality and data visualization applications (Microsoft suite, Smartsheet, Alteryx, Tableau or other similar tools)

  • Adaptable/flexible: being open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, positive attitude, good analytical skills, and the ability to work within a matrixed organization.

  • Excellent research, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.

  • Self-motivated and able to manage cross-functional teams.

  • Solid PC skills: experience with financial systems/applications (Oracle/SAP, HFM, Business Objects, etc.).

  • Strong Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (pivot tables, VLookup, Macros, etc.).

  • Fluent in English.
