Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will primarily focus on the Generator Stator manufacturing processes. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution of assembly of stator cores and windings. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define and control production process including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment. Includes

  • Manufacturing Engineers. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • A major portion of this role is helping the shop develop more cost effective strategies to lower cost. This will be achieved through process improvement, training and subsystem redesign. Position includes providing manufacturing technical support for solving difficult issues in production cells as well as the establishment of new workstation procedures and training.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Lead projects in manufacturing engineering, operations and lean. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Act as a manufacturing engineering expert for Stator Wind Manufacturing Operations in GE large Generator operations in Schenectady NY

  • Identify and execute projects to improve existing process quality and lower cost Work with materials engineering, design engineering and the shop to develop improved end winding systems and improved implementations in stator wind designs and processes

  • Provide documentation and training to shop floor to ensure seamless new product or process execution

  • Work with shop to develop manufacturing methods, schedules, and documentation for improvements

  • Apply lean methods to equipment and material handling designs to reduce waste throughout the production process

  • Design, procure and implement tooling and fixturing to support rapid setup changes

  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in manufacturing, assembly, construction

  • Experience with electrical and mechanical equipment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.
