General Electric Manufacturing Engineer in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

This Manufacturing Engineer will establish internal processes that ensure the safe production of high-quality products that meet compliance and customer requirements. Drive continuous improvement across the product lines by owning project timelines, improving cycle & cost, and resolving technical/process issues. Lead and effectively interface with manufacturing operations and other support teams to complete projects to meet EHS, production, quality, and cost savings goals within schedule and budget.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define and control production process including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment. Includes Manufacturing Engineers.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Lead improvement efforts for equipment reliability, tooling, process controls, and safety/ergonomic solutions

  • Develop work instructions & procedures to support operator training and process control

  • Support product qualifications as needed

  • Act as Operations Leader when needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of experience in manufacturing OR high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 7 years manufacturing experience in a technical role.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future

  • This position is 100% onsite at the GE factory in Schenectady, NY

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.

  • Engineering experience in industrial/manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams.

  • Familiarity with basic lean principles – takt/cycle and 5S
