General Electric Lead Fleet Mechanical Engineer in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

The Fleet Mechanical Engineer is a key role in the North America Fleet Reliability Operations organization, supporting the operation of the GE Onshore Wind turbine fleet. This role will provide technical oversight for the running fleet of GE turbines in North America, with specific focus on mechanical components and systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and engineering solutions for mechanical component and systems in the running GE fleet.

  • Work with first level support to proactively identify failure trends and to initiate corrective actions.

  • Leverage data and digital tools (CMS, fault analytics, etc) to detect mechanical issues in the running fleet.

  • Identify opportunities to extend remaining useful life of mechanical components.

  • Provide technical supervision for retrofits and validation of performance improvements.

  • Gather and interpret large amount of data to support component dispositions and investigations.

  • Provide feedback to Design Engineering teams to share field experience relative to design intent.

  • Support field troubleshooting.

  • Support product safety evaluations and action ownership.

  • Support commercial and technical discussions with suppliers to achieve field quality issue resolution.

  • Provide clear and consistent communications to internal and external customers.

  • Author Technical Information Letters (TILs) to communicate containment and corrective actions to the field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry work experience

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven track record of advocacy and adherence to safety and safe working practices.

  • Experience with wind turbine mechanical systems, including gearboxes, bearings, couplings, hydraulics, and structures.

  • Ability and willingness to climb a wind turbine.

  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to simplify complex issues for broader internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience applying Lean principles to solving technical challenges.

  • Strong customer-focus mindset.
