General Electric Lead Engineer - Test & Facility Operations in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

The Lead Engineer will support the STL Test & Facility Operations team and is responsible for the execution of laboratory and field validation testing. They will operate facility equipment/systems and have technical ownership of assigned test programs. They will adhere to internal processes to ensure test programs meet customer CTQ's and facility operations are conducted safely. Additional duties include the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of facility test equipment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prep, and execute laboratory and field validation testing.

  • Operate facility equipment during test including system walkdown, start-up, and shutdown.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve facility or test rig problems as they arise.

  • Generate maintenance work instructions & procedures.

  • Contribute to quality system initiatives including Test Record File and ISO compliance.

  • Establish work priorities consistent with the lab’s priorities and key objectives.

  • Promote Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) best practices and process rigor.

  • Administer and accountable for safety lockout and tagout (LOTO) related activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar field from an accredited college or university with minimum of 4 years of prior relevant work experience OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 8 years in testing, plant/facility operations, power generation industry, or equivalent military training/experience.

  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time; domestic & international.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation including P&ID’s.

  • Detailed understanding of energy hazards and OSHA Lockout/Tagout Requirements.

  • Functional experience with machine train vibration monitoring equipment, plant/turbine controls, PLC operations, and related software.

  • Knowledge of test instrumentation and measurement systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve problems.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communications skills - both verbal and written.

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
