Job Description Summary

The Data Scientist Intern will work as part of a team addressing the needs of the Renewable Energy Digital Services business. This individual will work in multidisciplinary teams focused on solving technical problems by using statistical and machine learning models to enable productivity. The projects are executed by teams typically including engineers, statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop change point detection algorithms using sensor and turbine performance data for detecting anomalies in wind turbines.

  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate the work and outcomes.

  • Use visualization to find insights in data obtained from wind turbines.

  • Develop, verify, and validate analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.

  • Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics.

  • Apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms to find patterns that indicate the health status of wind turbines.

Qualifications/Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science or in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

Desired Characteristics :

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of one or more analytic software tools or languages (e.g., R, Python).

  • Demonstrated skill at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment.

  • Demonstrated skill at data visualization (e.g., Tableau) and storytelling for an audience of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated skill at function in a team setting.

  • Demonstrated awareness of critical thinking and problem solving methods.

  • Demonstrated awareness of presentation and influencing skills.
