Job Description Summary

The Data Scientist Intern will work as part of a team addressing the needs of the Renewable Energy Digital Services business. This individual will work in multidisciplinary teams focused on solving technical problems by using statistical and machine learning models to enable productivity. The projects are executed by teams typically including engineers, statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Validate algorithms for remote monitoring and diagnostics across components found in a wind turbine.

  • Develop algorithms using sensor and turbine performance data to find patterns and engineering models and approximations governing the condition of wind components.

  • Develop survival models for components found in a wind turbine to forecast the probability of a failure in a given time horizon.

  • Develop, verify, and validate analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.

  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate the work and outcomes.

  • Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics.

  • Apply machine learning algorithms including classification, cluster analysis, time series analysis, forecasting, and multivariate regression.

Qualifications/Requirements :

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science or in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or Ph.D. in Data Science or in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of one or more analytic software tools or languages (e.g., R, Python).

  • Demonstrated skill at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment.

  • Demonstrated skill at data visualization and storytelling for an audience of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated skill at function in a team setting.

  • Demonstrated awareness of critical thinking and problem solving methods.

  • Demonstrated awareness of presentation and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrated awareness of how to succeed in ambiguous circumstances.
