General Electric Business Relationship Leader in Schenectady, New York

Role Summary:This role will act as a Partner and trusted advisor, aligned to multiple businesses to anticipate and understand business strategy, priorities, challenges and opportunities. As the Business Relationship Leader (BRL) you will be the interface with the businesses at a strategic and tactical level with engagement in the day to day issues as needed to solve critical issues.

Essential Responsibilities:Accountable to deliver business satisfaction with effective wing to wing processes aligned to GE business and to enhance the employee experience. Be an active participant in GE businesses SHRM leadership teams to understand their HR strategy and anticipate core needs, wants, volumes and potential adjacencies from People Operations. Demonstrate deep domain expertise of People Operations including market trends, customer satisfaction measures, productivity metrics, technology and innovation developments.

Build strong effective relationships with the GE businesses, with 2-way dialogue, mutual respect and understanding.

  • Active participant in the business SHRM leadership team - with a combination of domain expertise, technical aptitude and client management services.

  • Anticipate and identify the long-term needs and opportunities for GE businesses, engage cross-functionally to ensure market leading, positive employee experience products and services with a sustainable competitive advantage are in place.

  • In partnership with Finance, lead the communication around all People Operations billing to ensure transparency and understanding of PO services & value.

  • Establish and drive combined objectives and a multi-generational plan unique to each business and the changing external market.

  • Keeping businesses informed of process, tool, and procedural changes.

  • Outline critical success factors per business and metrics for success. Provide support and insight to enable the HR team to run their business more effectively.

  • Work across a highly matrix organization (regions, businesses, technology and sourcing) to ensure collaboration in designing, delivering and improving a quality product to our customers.

  • Monitoring and facilitating adoption of People Operations products, identifying gaps and pain points using critical thinking, analytical skills and best practices.

  • Influence based on external leanings and best practices from around the globe based on robust understanding of evolving industry trends.

  • Leverage knowledge of business priorities and GE People Operations products to provide contemporary, and compliant services. Work to balance offerings between standardized and customized in order to ensure cost competitiveness, maintain scale and continue to meet the unique needs of the businesses.

  • Consistently innovate through the eyes of the employees and businesses by understanding and monitoring of external landscape and global market leanings.

  • Own and manage product performance metrics (qualitative/quantitative). Forecast internal demand and opportunities – drive continuous improvement.

  • In collaboration with People Operations Peers, DT and businesses, define overall strategic priorities for GE/People Operations, which will include aspects of policy & process changes, technology enhancements, new product development, simplification opportunities, regulatory and legal changes, and ensure optimal delivery model for the organization.

  • Drive GE’s high standards of ethics and compliance across the organization.

  • Maintain up-to-date contingency plans and business continuity plans as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in related area (or a high school graduate/GED or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant work experience). All candidates must have a minimum of 9 additional years of relevant work experience.

  • Significant prior professional work experience with demonstrated achievement and leadership in global HR, Finance and/or Operations/Service-oriented environment.

  • May be required to travel up to 50% of the time

  • Location: Preference to have the candidate located in one of the following People Operations Locations: Monterrey, MX, Schenectady, NY, Budapest, Hungary, Bangalore, India or Shanghai, China.

Desired Characteristics:

  • HR Shared Service experience

  • Masters’ degree, MBA or other advanced degree

  • Ability to speak multiple languages

  • Account Management experience in a similar environment

  • Experience leading with LEAN management principles

  • Comprehensive understanding of and ability to assimilate regulatory and compliance requirements into an ongoing product and operational framework

  • Strategic and courageous thinking with an ability to develop and drive strategy

  • Proven ability to solve complex, organizational wide issues and manage them to complete resolution

  • Growth and risk-taking mindset - Demonstrated history balancing growth with risk mitigation actions

  • Proven experience in the effective leadership, project management architecture and implementation of business change initiatives with a global or multi-country footprint

  • Significant leadership and management experience in a complex customer services oriented operational environment

  • Strong communications both up and down the org, problem solving and executive presence.

  • Financial acumen – managing P&L operating plan

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity: ability to flex style to suit differing cultural norms and experience of leading a culturally diverse team

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
