General Electric Advanced Product Quality (APQP) Engineering Leader in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

GE Gas Power is committed to improving the quality of our products and services. Our Gas Power Engineering team is looking for a leader experienced in APQP with a track record of developing and deploying new quality systems across a global enterprise. The APQP Engineering Program Leader will be responsible for partnering with the Engineering NPI Process Owner and adjacent functions such as Quality, Supply Chain, Sourcing, and FieldCore to strategically identify and implement key elements of APQP into our processes that will lead to improved outcomes from our engineering teams. The APQP Engineering Leader will develop and standardize tools and processes to be followed throughout the Engineering organization, including risk management and risk communication arising from new products across the business. The successful individual will be experienced in concurrent design and manufacturing processes, capable of leading cross-functional teams through influence, adept at change management, and knowledgeable about APQP framework and fundamental elements of the methodology. The location of this role is flexible, but it is preferred to be close to/in the time zones nearest our core engineering teams and manufacturing centers within the Americas and Europe.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop roadmaps, program plans, standard tools, standard processes, and measurement systems that lead to successful integration of APQP requirements and deliverables into Engineering policies and procedures

  • Integrate technical risk management with APQP processes and connect to business processes to manage and communicate risk on new products

  • Collaborate with various leaders across different functions to understand best approach to implementing changes within New Product Introduction and Product Change Management

  • Leverage and/or develop training content for Engineering personnel

  • Develop and manage business metrics on APQP that clearly indicate status, business impact and significant issues related to APQP projects

  • Be the go-to expert on APQP, providing technical expertise and guidance on APQP deployment, implementation, and project execution.

  • Be an APQP mentor/coach for various projects


  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in a technical field.

  • Minimum of 8 years leading Engineering, Manufacturing, and/or Quality

  • Practical experience in developing/deploying APQP or other similar Quality framework

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with SFMEA/DFMEA/PFMEA, process capability analysis, quality assurance planning, and risk management

  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status-quo and adept at change management

  • Demonstrated capability in leading through influence across a global matrixed organization

  • Clear, concise written and oral communications to the appropriate level

  • Humble, open, collaborative, and continuously learning
