General Electric Power Performance Senior Engineer in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Role Summary:

The Onshore Wind Engineering Megawatt Constrained (MWC) Segment Power Performance team is responsible for defining power performance requirements of wind turbines, for developing & executing simulations as input to commercial power curves, for ensuring that the design meets requirements, and for supporting our customers in the execution of contractual power performance tests.

Essential Responsibilities:

The MWC Power Performance team is seeking a Senior Engineer that will be the GE lead for customer power performance tests, demonstrate expertise in power performance testing methods, and provide leadership in analysis methods, database oversite and reporting.

As the Power Performance Senior Engineer, you will:

  • Be the Power performance test project leader for contractual power performance tests, working collaboratively with the customer and their independent testing entity in all phases, planning through completion

  • Ensure contractual power performance tests are executed, consistent with contractual requirements

  • Conduct terrain assessment in preparation for power performance tests

  • Analyze contractual power performance test data

  • Evaluate performance, develop risk assessments, and manage corrective action projects, if needed

  • Provide leadership in testing methods, analysis methods, databases and reporting

  • Support Matlab (or similar) use, development and scripting

  • Provide Power curve database over-site and quality assurance

  • Develop expertise in power curve testing methods (instrumentation, wind measurement, planning, analysis)

  • Stay abreast of industry power curve testing standards & techniques

  • Participate in industry and standards meetings / committees as needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience with demonstrated leadership of design activities and/or projects

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel 8 weeks per year

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master's Degree / PhD in Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Wind turbine test (power curve) experience

  • Wind turbine system and/or component design experience

  • Wind turbine operability / loads / power performance experience

  • Experience with wind turbine simulation tools and environments (i.e., FLEX5, Bladed, MATLAB, Simpack, Adams, etc.)

  • Experience with analysis, design, database and/or visualization tools (i.e., MATLAB, Simulink, ENOVIA, Tableau, etc.)

  • Fluid mechanics (e.g., turbulence) and/or atmospheric sciences experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a global, matrix organizational environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills when working with the customer and colleagues

  • Strong project management skills
