General Electric Sr Software Engineer in San Ramon, California

Role Summary:

You will be responsible for providing engineering and development support for several core software modules. Work independently and contribute development fixes to critical software issues for several core software modules. You will also contribute to design discussions.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work in GE Application Customer Response Team (CRT) providing hands on engineering/development support for critical customer defects, issues and enhancements

  • Triage customer support issues for priority and severity. Root cause issues and develop code fixes to resolve issues

  • Develop hotfixes and support deployments of patches

  • Become experienced in new software modules by actively coding and delivering user stories against each module

  • Engineering support for Pre-Prod / Prod environments with on call responsibilities

  • Be responsible for providing technical leadership and defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure

  • Provide technical leadership resolving critical customer support issues. Manage issues for entire defect lifecycle

  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision

  • Translate requirements / vision into prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards

  • Work with product line leaders and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans

  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

  • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities

  • Coach, mentor and lead initiatives and issues

  • Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables

  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products

  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and also across GE Digital leadership team and with PLLs

  • Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results

  • Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge

  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques

  • Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project

  • Understand performance parameters and assess application performance

  • Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using technology chosen

  • Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness Qualifications/Requirements: Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in full stack software development with Java Spring, Rest, data access and modeling, at least one JS framework including Angular, Polymer, React OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in full stack software development with Java Spring, Rest, data access and modeling, at least one JS frameworks including Angular, Polymer, React

  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

  • Able to work in an Agile software development environment. Eligibility Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree/ PHD in Computer Science

  • Experience with Windows and Unix / Linux based programming

  • Experience working on software projects in the industrial domain (Energy Management, Oil & Gas, Power & Water, Aviation)

  • Certified Scrum Master and/or Product Owner

  • Strong knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Design Patterns and Java coding principles

  • Hands-on experience in web services (REST, SOAP, WSDL etc.), using Apache Commons Suite & Maven, SQL Database such as Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.

  • Hands-on experience in utilizing Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Integration and Data)

  • Hands-on experience with web development using HTML5, Java Script, jQuery, CSS.

  • Hands-on experience with JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS, ReactJS, etc.Business Acumen:

  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
