General Electric Principal Lead Software Engineer in San Ramon, California

Role Summary:As a Principal Lead Software Engineer, you are an individual contributor who thrives on solving problems with a combination of hands-on grit and effective technical leadership in a collaborative, fluid, and results-oriented environment. You know how to turn broad direction into actionable plans aligned to business objectives, gain backing from key stakeholders and partners, and take pride in consistently delivering successful outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:On a day-to-day basis, you might:

  • Design, architect and implement solutions that integrate legacy systems using state of the art software practices and design patterns

  • Build awareness, and help accelerate adoption, of modern software design patterns, practices, and tools.

  • Work effectively in a matrix environment by leaning on soft skills

  • Function as a trusted internal consultant on area of individual expertise, helping to shape use cases and implementations as part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Assist in the formulation and articulation of technical vision and strategy, and to help effectively communicate it to key constituencies

  • Develop team capabilities and infrastructure needed to grow and improve product quality, such as maintaining high quality documentation or test automation

  • Write high-quality code

  • Mentor more junior team members via training sessions and meaningful code reviews

  • Curation of the the development backlog by translating business workflows into new user stories or prioritizing existing ones

Qualifications/Requirements: Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum 10 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with a minimum of 14 years of experience.

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.

Desired Characteristics:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience working on enterprise data integration

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience using .NET, C#, Java

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience designing and building distributed data platforms

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience designing and building database systems

  • Great communication, team spirit, and leadership abilities

  • Strong ability to align engineering efforts to product and partner objectives

  • Enjoy communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical individuals

  • Strong understanding of the design and operation of distributed-computing and distributed-data systems

  • Strong understanding of API design

  • Past responsibility for delivering software releases on a regular cadence

  • Previous experience building documentation systems

  • Previous experience building continuous integration pipelines

  • Previous experience with automated testing methodologies and frameworks

  • Experience implementing continuous-release delivery methodology

  • Experience with network technologies including routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, proxy, etc. Active or prior vendor certifications are a bonus (e.g. CCNA, CCENT, etc).

  • Understanding realtime, soft-realtime, and safety-critical systems

  • Experience building distributed systems using the Actor model

  • Experience using DevOps tools including Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with GoLang

  • Experience with Serverless computing

  • Experience with Spring Boot

  • Experience with messaging queues (e.g. Kafka, ActiveMQ/Artemis, RabbitMQ)

  • Previous experience designing and building a dynamically-scalable cloud application

  • Experience building APIs in a microservice world

  • Working knowledge of a service mesh (Istio or Linkerd, for example)

  • Familiarity with data encryption fundamentals: PKI, Encryption, Digital Signatures & Key Management

  • Working knowledge of software security and practices

  • Working knowledge of enterprise integration design patterns

  • Knowledge of GDPR and “privacy by design” principles
