Job Description Summary

Lead the cross functional team to deliver on the identification and development of the product offerings for the business. Jobs at this level operate with some autonomy. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability. Responsible for medium to large-sized programs or complicated subsystems. Responsibilities include early schedule development through qualification, serial production and validation. Understand technical interdependencies throughout new product development and for qualification / cut-in coordination. Lead level 3 scheduling; anticipate, identify and resolve resource conflicts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Defines L3 schedule needs for subsystem and associated relationships: detailed scheduling within subsystem (NPI, certifications, cost out, supplier quals, change mgt, etc.); works with supplier to understand and track schedule for critical path BTS components, develop early warning flags for when suppliers are late

  • Identify gaps/needs/risks around resourcing, estimates impacts, resolves (when able) or escalates when appropriate

  • Responsible for bringing visibility to priority issues within the subsystem, ensure misses are flagged early, communicated regularly and works with the sub system team to define a recovery plan where ever possible and the product program manager when the issue cannot be contained within the subsystem

  • Responsible for working with subsystem to define SW&L / additional funding needs to support testing, outside analysis, etc to ensure the subsystem needs are budgeted for

  • All key performance related activities, tied to program(s) or customers.

  • Perform as interface between the subsystem and the rest of the functions, managing the transfer of information and requests.

  • Assure timely resolution of issues, keeps the product program manager advised of the progress of the subsystem, and negotiate changes, variations, solutions to issues.

  • Accountability for functional, subsystem, and broad program objectives. Integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, may be involved in long-term planning for the subsystem, manage complex issues within functional area of expertise, and contribute to the overall product strategy.

  • May also support negotiations with suppliers required to support testing or subcontract out work.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of own subsystem or programs, product lines, components or processes and uses analytical thinking and experience to execute plan / strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others.

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated, day-to-day problems within program with engineering, supply chain, product line, processes, or customers.

  • Ability to prioritize information for decision making. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking.

  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • A job at this level requires strong interpersonal skills. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • May lead medium or large sized projects with higher risks and complexity.

  • Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.

  • Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Reports directly to the Program Management Leader and dotted line to the Subsystem Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferably in an engineering discipline

  • Solid experience in new Product development

  • Some experience in program management.
