General Electric Lead Design Engineer, Drive Train – Gearbox (f/m/d) - Wind Energy in Salzbergen, Germany
Job Description Summary
Lead and execute engineering design, analysis and product support work on wind turbine gearbox and drivetrain components. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals. The design responsibility reaches from the conceptual design stage through prototyping to the serial implementation and support of the installed fleet.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
Own gearbox design closely developed with key suppliers for large wind turbines.
Provide design calculation and mechanical problem solving
Lead qualification testing/ validation support relative to equipment standards for gearboxes
Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing on the production
Create and revise of drawing/specifications/design practices/ certification documents for mechanical and structural components of gearboxes. Own GE BoM related to the maingearbox.
Work with certification and testing institutes, support customer and due diligence activities.
Work cross-functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, planning, field support and others to improve first time yield.
Investigate causes for component interferences, functional failures, gearbox excessive vibration
Responsible for design, development and testing to prove out component functional, reliability and acoustic.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
B.A./M.A. in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering, or equivalent
Project management skills to manage supplier design projects
Solid background in mechanical design engineering, with good mechanical sense and fundamental base
Solid experience in designing, qualifying, supplier and fleet support of rotating machinery or gearboxes
Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Fluent English written and spoken
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
Basic knowledge of wind turbine design, components, assembly and manufacture
Familiar with one or more of the calculation programs like KISSsoft, LVR, LDP, MASTA
Roller bearing design and/or application engineering experience ((journal bearing knowledge is a bonus)
Intimate experience with the use and application of ISO 281 and ISO 16281 for roller bearing analysis.
Demonstrated knowledge of roller bearing and gear failure analysis.
Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries, proven ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions.
