Job Description Summary
The Software Project Lead manages all aspects of software implementation projects from initiation through closure with responsibility to own the release of systems software. The Software Project Lead works with stakeholders to plan and execute projects on schedule and compliant to process and quality procedures.
Drives initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
Roles and Responsibilities
Supporting the Program Manager, ensures that multi-functional projects integrate properly within the product/program. Optimize team performance across the program value chain, functionally and technically.Ability to proactively manage cross-functional interdependencies to maximize team efficiency and avoid gaps/delays in mid to long-term execution. Anticipate integration issues and discern appropriate actions to progress the team forward. Connects planning and cross-functional impacts of product NPI, Installed Base, Obsolescence and End-of Life.
Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
Facilitating and coordinating, as well as tracking, of day-to-day activities required to ensure the project is completed on time, successfully, and in a manner consistent with organizational goals and departmental policies.
Writing project plans for assigned projects, which include clear milestones and assignment of project task responsibilities.
Communicating the requirements and commitments (both verbally and in writing) for each project with the engineering teams and management.
Maintaining alignment between the project team and external resources.
Providing leadership and direction for software team assigned to the project.
Acting as an effective team leader for all matrixed staff.
Creating project status reports for all assigned clients/stakeholders.
Maintaining compliance with the Quality Management System and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
Completing all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines and identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
Owner of all software project risk; including time, budget, and scope, and the associated plans to contain and/or mitigate risk
Identifies critical path decisions, makes recommendations, and influences program leaders and business process owners to maximize project payback
Supports preparation for and all audit activities as needed
Work closely with systems teams in requirements gathering and software design
Interacts with global teams to promote consistency and maximize synergies across common software platforms
Leverages DFR for software, Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability upstream into the product development life cycle
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related computer field and 4+ years of experience developing software for complex systems or computerized products
Software development lifecycle and automated testing experience
Experience in object oriented design methodology and various programming languages, including C++ and/or Java
Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
Proven leadership and effective decision-making capabilities
Proven project management experience in complex environments
Ability to monitor and manage critical path elements of consolidated projects
Ability to make formal presentations (internal and external)
1-3 years of experience in project/team leadership role, preferably in Healthcare or other regulated industry
Experience in software platform, advanced applications, user-interface design and/or systems engineering
Embedded C++ development experience
Experience with Linux OS & kernel
Database/Data Management experience in embedded environment
3D development experience
Android development experience
