General Electric System Engineer – Controls Platform in Salem, Virginia

Job Description Summary

The Controls Platform System Engineer (CPSE) provides product vision, technical oversight, and support to the new product introduction (NPI) development team. As a member of a diverse engineering group, the position focuses on utilizing state of the art microprocessor hardware, network infrastructure, and software technology to realize a family of cost effective, high reliability controls solutions for a variety of diverse product lines within the power generation market.

Job Description

The Controls Platform System Engineer (CPSE) provides product vision, technical oversight, and support to the new product introduction (NPI) development team. As a member of a diverse engineering group, the position focuses on utilizing state of the art microprocessor hardware, network infrastructure, and software technology to realize a family of cost effective, high reliability controls solutions for a variety of diverse product lines within the power generation market.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and tactical technical vision and product guidance consistent with NPI processes and goals

  • Interact with customers and product line leaders to obtain and flow down system requirements into controls platform specific requirements

  • Support and enhance the control system architecture

  • Create conceptual designs to drive product development

  • Ensure adherence to design intent through close oversight and active leadership in design reviews throughout the product lifecycle

  • Author design practices and technical white papers

  • Participate in multi-generation product planning

  • Lead root cause analysis efforts of product defects

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (science/technology/engineering/math) from an accredited university or college along with at least 8 years industry experience in controls-related engineering roles, networking, or operational technology.

Desired Characteristics

  • Preference for a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Network Engineering experience, preferably CCNP or CCNA certified

  • Domain knowledge of power generation industry controls

  • Strong technical leadership and project leadership skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills

  • Proven analytical and organizational ability

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
