Job Description Summary
The Sr Systems Administration Engineer role is responsible to technically design, build and maintain the IT infrastructure for the Naval areas in UK as well as to work with Coretech or other partner in maintaining the IT infrastructure for the Non-naval areas in UK.
The main work for the Sr Systems Administration Engineer role will be to work in projects to deploy or refresh, adapt or retire the infrastructure according with the business priorities and requirements, but it is also expected to have the Sr Systems Administration Engineer acting to close high-priority or high-impact incidents. During the execution of the projects, the Sr Systems Administration Engineer will be responsible to interact with different stakeholders, both internal and external, to get requirements and discuss technical alternatives to deliver the best solution for the business.
On top of having the technical work executed in the infrastructure, it is also responsibility of the Sr Systems Administration Engineer to keep all the documentation of the environment build and updated according with the best practices or with the requirements of MoD and IT.
Work with the business and different stakeholders to understand business requirements of new solutions, confirm the understanding of the requirements with the stakeholders and translate them in technical designs and architectural designs of IT solutions.
Manage and participate of IT projects to deliver new infrastructure or to refresh or retire the IT infrastructure in both the naval and non-naval networks in UK.
Execute part of the operations to maintain the infrastructure, like patching, responding to high-impact incidents, etc…
Review and propose cost saving initiatives, create and execute projects to implement them to maintain a low running cost for his site
Make sure all new deliveries for the business are properly documented and peer reviewed. Make sure the IT security and information security requirements are captured and are part of the design and implementation.
Work on highly complex projects that require in-depth domain knowledge in multiple IT areas, always keeping a focus in IT security requirements.
Maintain understanding of GE design and security policies as well as current national government, industry and general system and security engineering standards and good practice guides.
Keep updated about the newest technologies and technology trends through self training and external trainings
Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders including the global IT team, regional CIOs, Risk and Security Managers and other global IT security and compliance leaders.
Promote standardized systems and security administration tools, processes and platforms to maintain design consistency across all regions.
Basic Essential Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, Engineering or a similar field
A minimum of 5 years professional experience in IT Systems and Security Engineering.
Hands on and design experience in delivering and maintaining complex local IT infrastructure projects and 3rd line support within a corporate IT Service Management and Quality Management Systems driven manufacturing organization.
Experience in creating and reviewing documentation within a regulated and quality-controlled environment including test procedures.
Additional Desirable Qualifications/Requirements:
Personal certification in recognized information technology and information security toolsets (e.g. Microsoft MCSA, Citrix CCA-V, Cisco CCNA, Nessus Enterprise, Splunk, Checkpoint CCSA, AWS and Azure).
ITIL training and general ITIL knowledge
Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain UK Government Security Clearance; a prerequisite for a security clearance is U.K. citizenship.

Must be fluent in English

Technical background and understanding of a broad range of IT areas including but not limited to; server/client OS (in particular Windows), storage, Database, endpoint data protection, vulnerability analysis, network and data forensics, encryption methods and protocols, identity and access management, MFA, cloud computing, computing hardware, scripting and orchestration, data center management, virtualization, mobile device management, segmentation and storage technology.
A high level of knowledge and experience in working within multiple governance and compliance frameworks.
Familiar with IT system and security maturity models and systems architecture & design plus development lifecycles
Experienced with general IT architecture principles.
Familiar with implementing and working within national government and industry accreditation and certification processes.
